CAR magazine are running a BMW retrospective this month to celebrate 100 years of BMW. Whilst discussing Chris Bangle's work, they say; " But the fully flame surfaced Z4 Coupe is the one that keeps us up at night: an edgy reimagination of the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe; it'll be accorded design classic status one day"

Too true but the Daytona Coupe is not the one all the Cobra owners want . . . . . :poke:

Just sayin'.... Reviewing a 100 years of production and the only Z4 to get a mention as a milestone in all that time is the Coupe :poke:

Fair comment . . . needs to come with a can opener though

With all respect I understand the pros and cons between convertible and coupe models I've never said the roadster is better. Thanks for the mention on your title did make me laugh too. Good job I'm only young then I may live to see this award when given. Cool story about the magazine though it must be reassuring for you to know this information.

as owner of both I feel I am within my rights to make an unbiased opinion, that coupe is much much better looking than the roadster - its a future classic :)

:poke: @ roadster owners

100 Years of BMW and they say the Z4 Coupe is the car that keeps them up at night..?

Did they skip the first 85 years or something? The Z4 would be waaaaaay down the bottom on my list.

I think from the gist of the OP they were talking about the Bangle era at that particular point. So I'm guessing they mentioned all the periods in chronological before they got to the Bangle era and then they said the Z4 coupe is the one from Bangle that keeps them awake and is a future classic.

I haven't read the article myself and obviously neither have you but at least I bothered to read the OP properly :D :poke:

Nope. The bit I quoted was from a piece discussing Bangle's influence on BMW design language, basically saying the Coupe was the best example of his 'flame surface' approach. There are several other articles discussing iconic cars in BMW's history and apart from the bit I quoted, the Z4 doesn't feature - which is a bit of an omission in my view - whether it's Roadster or Coupe....

:D True, you didn't, but you did say driving a Coupe makes people miserable... Just thought I'd post something up to keep us Coupe owners smiling :driving:

I dont know if it's an omission or not. In terms of sales or longevity the z4 isnt very important for bmw. (that's why for years there is still no real news on a successor)

The (e85)z4 is however important for the styling as I think it was BMW's first new edge design (or flame surface as they called it), so it paved the way for the e90/e60/e63's etc styling of that era. It set the bar for a 10 year period or so.
But basically the z4 is of course a roadster version of the e46 (from a technical POV), just as the z3 was a roadster version of the e36 compact.

This would be my ultimate Z4 coupe with a wide body kit. It looks great. I know you have both, I'd still have to beg to differ on which is better looking. If it looked like that widebody coupe hell yes its better. On a standard one I'd say the side on view is better on a roadster, front is basically the same and I'd argue both rears are different but still as nice as each other tbh. Maybe the coupe looks better from a birds eye view only thing I can think maybe. The roadster has two looks anyway with roof up and roof down so its hard to call really.

Here is what I said its the opening sentence "I notice a lot of Z4 coupe owners looking over when ever my roofs down and I'm driving past. They always look very down and miserable maybe its the heat I don't know"

I think you may have misread or mis understood because It was more the fact each time I drive past a z4 coupe owner they are 99% grey and disgruntled looking, maybe that's their happy face.

for coupe owners who know they bought the better car and all roadster owners are now below them you lot don't half need a lot of reassuring. "Just thought I'd post something up to keep us Coupe owners smiling" you said. Seriously dude I smile every time the roofs down and everyone can see my fit mrs riding shotgun. Got a few years yet until she's all wrinkled up and I need to hide her in a coupe.

peaceout much love enjoy your day maybe go take your mrs for a drive if its anything like a roadster u getting some tonight... :P

It's all in jest mate - enjoy your drive out and think of coupes when you're getting your end away - you might last longer

I've never ever regretted selling any car. When I sell, I move on.
However in this case I've come back to owning a coupe. Unthinkable normally for me.

The coupe looks classy in amongst expensive company and can't be out-shined

The roaster is ok. :poke:
