Retrofitting X3 Navigation Pro harness for Z4

hey guys,
though I posted already this request in the "how to" section (no response yet) I hope that I got your attention for my issue.
I'm gonna retrofit the navigation pro system (I have navigation business in place). I ordered the x3 loom since z4 is not available any longer. does anyone know how to adapt the loom to fit it to z4? I read it is not difficult but I'd be happy to get guidance in doing that.

thanks a lot,
nam

I know one member on here modified one.

I'm guessing the connectors are in the wrong place, basically there is the main plug and two wire at one one for the CID (screen) and head unit then two plugs, one male the other female that tap into the main vehicle loom just behind the left hand seat, and finaly there is a plug that connects to the DVD drive in the rear bulkhead between the seats.

Now I'm not sure how the X3 differs as the picture on realoem.com doesn't give the location of the connection into the loom. Once you get it post some pics then I'm sure we can assist.

cool, your support is appreciated.
i made some pictures. for easier discussion purposes, i added numbers to the plugs. hope you can give me some guidance.

Hi Nahodo,
I'm looking at retro fitting nav to my '06 vert but component prices seem to be crazy at the moment,
would you mind breaking down what you got from where and a ballpark figure you paid for them.

Cheers
Dave

hey bug,

will have some brief writing today where I sourced the parts I needed.

thanks for referring to the article, I read it already but being honest, I'm still not sure how to connect everything. since I receive my headunit today or tomorrow, I'll check whether I can find it out on my own... but still looking forward for getting help!

Can you take a picutre of the loom laid out so I can see where the connectors are.

5 and 6 (pink and blue) are for the dvd drive

1 and 2 break into main loom so need to be about 2-3 feet from 5 & 6

3 for monitor so need to be miles away from the others (4 back of stereo so close to 3)

thank you very much, I think that I started to understand the issues:-
a. dvd plugs are not a problem
b. plugs to main loom are 8 pins (x3) instead of 12 pins (z4) (how to solve)?
c. main loom plug must be far away from cid plug - i started to strip the tape from the loom but i can't achieve more than 20cm distance - how to proceed?

thanks for helping :-)

@bug:
- i bought my new cid in grey at ebay germany, 119 euro
- headunit, used, 180 euro, ebay germany
- x3 loom, 90 euro, bmw stealer

the rest is already in place since i have business navigation (mk3 dvd, gps)

I dropped a mail to him 1 week ago, but there has been no response yet.
I started to strip of the tape, but at a certain stage, the cable between the main loom plugs
and the cid plug is too short to separate it over the entire distance.
of course i can insert a bypass cable but since I read that it's quite easy to customize
i believe there is a smarter solution.

i read again his post and now i understand that he removed the connectors and splice the wires directly to the main loom. i think i look for 12-pin connectors and fit the 8 pin to the 12 pin plug..

update: from my german forum colleagues i just received an email with the offer to touch base this evening in order to get phone support. looking forward to it :-) will have a detailed writing afterwards.

I'm with you in trying to find the plugs instead or hard wiring.

It might we worth seeing if there are any part numbers stamped on your existing plugs, as you basically need another two of them.

good luck.

I have the part numbers for the plugs but it's on my work laptop, I've only just noticed this thread sorry. I also have the complete BMW wiring schematic for the loom, curtesy of the higher powers.

What I will do when I get into work tomorrow I will tell you the part numbers for the plugs and also let you know where to put it and at what point in the loom you wanna be fixing it in; there's another member on hee I'm meant to be doing a loom for but he's kinda disapeared on me so I have no loom to do a write up on. you can always donate yours and I'll send it back completed and can do a write up for anyone else.

I'm also not very good with the whole PM thing, so you can email me directly at [email protected] and we can talk properly. again sorry about the poor response.

hey, good hear something from you and looking forward to your explanations.
probably i can take parts of my business navi loom, because it should have this plugs... but i can also order new ones. but still needing to know how to put things together. please rescue my weekend :-)
furthermore, i discovered that it is possible to code the mk4 or mk3 to street view mono or color via INPA. so no need to go to the stealer. but i have to create a software cd, i found one with v32. keep you postet.. interesting journey so far :.)

today i fitted the x3 harness into my z4.
i spliced the ibus line (white-purple), the plus (red yellow) and minus cable (black) and the ignition (yellow white red)to the main
loom.
but no idea if the mentioned blue - yellow cable is relevant as it is said? in the
x3 instruction it seems to be a wire which has to be spliced to the speedometer.
any hints for me?

well, actually, it looked good... turned on ignition, display flaps, hear navi
dvd activities but i'm really concerned to see a picture on the cid, but it is some kind of flickering
and scrolling and you can only guessing what's going on there.
i was already checking all lines, i think everything is linked properly.
any ideas at this stage?

i was trying to code from radio navigation mode to monitor (monochrom to colour)
with INPA, upgrading the software, but I'm not sure if the switch was really successfully. so i have no
clue, how to fix the issue. should i see really nothing on the screen if the coding was not successfully?
help appreciated..

it looks as if you tried it with the old head unit, I would think the two would be in compatible, you need to use your new head unit.

No coding is required for pro nav installation

Well acutally i tried with boih, results are the same. The video signal comes from mk4 anway, you could disconnect the headunit and have the same view. When i hopefully can fix the problem, i check if its possible to drive the navi pro with business head unit. I think so since i was able to chane menu options with this head unit though i didnt see clearly about the results because of the current problem.

The Part numbers for the plastic 8 pin plugs are as follows

x322s is 61131378137
x322b is 61131378139

the plugs that go into these sockets are:

Round receptable repair cables
61130007449 (0.5-1.0mm)
61130007450 (1.0-2.5mm)

Also possibilities of round plug connector only (without cable):
61131376193 (1.0-2.5mm)
61131376195 (2.5-4.0mm)

I'm pretty sure the 1.0-2.5 is the ones you'll need.

The blue/Yellow cable is relevent and should be on the rear end of the main loom, so you'll need to connect that; the black/white cable is the speed sensor cable, I haven't connected that since there is no corresponding place for it to go that I can find. I remember looking at am E39 manual that states on High clusters (speedo cluster) it should go into pin 14 or tapped into the black/white cable. but I haven't investigated that any further throughsher laziness.

Where did you splice into the main loom? at the retrofit connector or behind the stereo?
