And its got better seats and steering wheel

You want your car to be unique but your only going to end up with a 3.0 with a supercharger bolted on. That's not unique mate sorry.. 8)

throw in a s54 and boost it.... 500 hp + all day long on the stock forged internals, the s54 just loves boost, you can take one of those engine pretty much as far as your wallet will allow once you've gone FI... 5-6-700hp...

the s54 is the german 2jz.!!! iron block is super strong too!!

buy one that needs work and rebuilt it with a bullet proof spec and never need worry about power again, you'll be the king of the road... if you actually plan to beat the s**t of the car on track keep the power reasonable.

bone stock s54 + boost = https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4dTjxOs90Xx8BEFSoCASaw

Take it where your wallet allows, the above example is yet another bolt on FI setup... looks fun right?

my setup is a much modified s/c setup.... and jesus, its just awesome.

if i was you, with the cost of a decent s54.... id buy a 40k mile motor, rebuild the vanos so you know its healthy, strap on a blower and kick some ass in Essex :-) not sure how the rest of the car will cope but straight line at least, you will be deep into super car territory.

That looks epic mate, loved what he said about follow your dream not letting know one tell you it cant be done lol
Money is never the issue, even if the cars worth 10p after at least its my 10p Z4 :driving:
Ive found a valued breakers of BMW engines, does any S54 engine matter for my car.....meaning if its from a M3 and want it for a z4?

any s54 will do.

...though just make sure that the mileage is legit. If you get it from a breakers then I think you'd want to see the engine in the car, running, with the mileage on the dash, right ? Then make a note of the VIN and make sure it's the same one once they've extracted it. Or am I being too anal ?

The point about not handing it over and ignoring it until it's done is a good one too - Beedub is a great example, because though he's had Simpsons (?) do it all, he's clearly made sure he knows everything about everything even if he hasn't or couldn't do it himself.

Johnny - if your going to do it then do it. It's funny how "money is never the issue" yet you drive the cheapest
derivative of a Z4 going. There was a 3.0 engine going on here recently for peanuts that you didn't buy - why?

I wouldn't waste my money trying to make a 2.0 silver Z with a red roof go fast when you can buy a better one that goes fast from the factory.

My opinion :tumbleweed:

my car has been through 3 guises of FI.... 2.5 of them built by Simpsons to retain the ESS warranty ( which I've had to use BTW) and actually those guys are SO good I'm glad they did, however the last guise came from me basically modding out the ess setup , and changing a good deal of the hardware for better quality items, and striving for oem type fitment and look ( simpson did an epic on job on that part tbh and followed my brief to the T), and I'm pleased to say we've exceeded that task, the car looks and performs like it came from the factory in that manner. Its cost ALOT more than i expected and items i didn't really factor in for upgrade have needed to be done, FI Will show up the weaker items and fast, the expensive bits have the been bits you can't see.

go s54 jonny, do it once and do it properly .

Bedub - I'm a huge fan of your car and appreciate your passion. All talk and no action definatly doesn't apply to you

thanks for the compliments on the car, massively appreciate it :-) my Zed is a detail freak, she's beautiful!, I've stopped posting about the mods now as it seemed to everyone all i did was mod and clean the thing and never enjoy it.. so know i keep quiet and just enjoy, the car is however still being modded, infact its in the air right now having some of the underside parts powder-coated :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

still think the e85/e86 is one of bmws best designs in a long time so i love seeming them modded, i see z4s all the time from 2.0l to the occasional ///M and i always think, "those look brilliant "

after all these years, my love for the z4 in general has not fallen one bit...

thanks again.

You may get a lot of messages from me near the end of the year mate :D

no probs, if you love your car and want to keep it, engine swap, how about an odd ball one, this is prob as cool as the ///M s54 option but uber different.... how about going for the alpina z4 3.4 motor and going ESS twin screw s/c kit, now those FLY... 430+bhp and instant wallop.... I've driven one of those and those bad boi's and it think they are awesome, enough TQ to rip your face off, that pina engine is very special too.

The reason ive got a 2L is due to the 28k cost at new which is all i could afford nearly 9 years ago unlike the FAR cheaper 2nd hand ginger 3L you own, and im not ready to buy an engine that would sit around for a year either and i know there is better examples to be had plus i want to upgrade other performance up grades first.
And "All talk" was once said to me when i first joined about all the mods i planned.....
What a spinner!!!

Nothing personal but you did call my (and everyone else's)'107's "turd":

1) Your car is only worth what you can sell it for, I would say around £6k tops.
2) If money is no object, why do you talk about it so much?
3) When you were paying £28k for a 4 pot, which bit of your brain wasn't working?
4) My car is ginger as a lot others are on here, but the headlights don't mist up and it doesn't keep me awake at night!
5) Want a race????

6) If you have had your car for nearly 9 years and claim to spend a grand a month on it (nearly £96,000) would you not prefer a Ferrari? Or something with a few more cylinders?

I love hearing about what your doing to your car, don't keep quite because of the steady eddy's. You and the chap in Cyprus (forgot his id) show what these cars are really capable of.

I am in awe!

Oil I think you need to sit the next few plays out. Whilst many (me included) disagree with JE's routes, calling him stupid for paying £28k for a new car is bit out of order IMO.

If it wasn't for those that paid the original asking prices for the Z4 none of us would have a car to buy cheap second hand.

As for being stupid to buy a 4 pot, I'd gladly pay £28k for an E30 M3 or Alfa 4C.

Think again its heart over head.

IMO I bought my Z second hand with 46k on it and you said yourself you think its mint... gets driven hard but looked after well because like you I spend money on it keeping it that way.

If your looking to transplanting an engine miles doesn't matter because you would have it stripped and strengthened to suit the power your after, the clock on the car won't be reset so why worry?

The mods you've done are nice. Just man up and by an M and join Beedub with a 600+hp Z instead of making all these bloody threads where people ridicule you! Prove them all wrong and buy the right car to start with then the plan is a lot easier.

Just my 2cent.

+1
Your trying to invent a car that all ready exists.

Oh yes, it is that.... 8)

Don't do what Beedub suggested with the pina engine!! This is what I wanted to do!!!

So what are the big differences with the engines? Head work? crank? Larger bores?
