Replacing run-flats

Guys,

I know the below been discussed/asked before but I'm desperate to lose the run-flats and having read previous posts, the consensus seems to be to replace with falkens or ZZ3's - from Camskill. I currently have the OEM Bridgestone run-flats and despite having 5mm left on all 4, the ride and tramlining is really doing my head in and affecting the enjoyment of the car. :(

Of the two, which would give the better ride (& less tramlining)?

Do most tyre places do a fit/balance if they haven't supplied the tyre?

Cheers..........R

I considered the ZZ3 and Eagle F1A but went with the Falken and am very pleased so far, different car, can now commit to narrow or bumpy bends and motorway troughs hold no fear!

The ZZ3 had mixed reviews elsewhere; the Eagle was a bit more money for no reported benefit and the tyre dealer had Falkens on his M3 so it was good enough for me. I'm sure any decent non-RFT or one of the better RFTs will give big improvements. :driving:

cheers for that - just ordered flakens for 4 corners from a local tyre place - they price-matched Camskill and £50 for fitting and balancing. :D :D

now will have to sell my bridgestones... or should I keep them?

Anybody know what would be the minimum requirement to get through the next MOT?

I was planning on getting Falkens, but I've ended up ordering Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas - due to get them fitted tomorrow.

To be fair, I think the wheels off of my nephew's sit-on truck would be more comfortable!

let me know what you think. The blokes spoke to today agreed that anything is better than the bridgestones.

are you doing the holts, compressor pack?

I am going to keep my bridgestones with the minimum tread and then put them on if or when I decide to part ex.

Halfords were doing two for one on Holts today so bought two for £13.99
Also bought a compressor from Halfords for £30. Both fit easily in the space around the battery.

and these are needed for the MoT as well?

As far as I'm aware it's not required for the MOT but would be highly advisable. There was a brand new mini getting towed in to the dealers today when I was there as it didn't have a spare tyre to replace its blown one and obviously didn't have tyreweld or a compressor.

How much did you pay for your sets of non run flats? I'm keen to move away from RFs

I'm paying approx £600 tomorrow for Vreds and fitting from a local garage. Could have got them cheaper online but need them in a hurry.

there was somebody on her suggesting the michelin RFTs were better - but v expensive. These seem to be std on new cars now.

Lots of people have mentioned the Michelins are almost as good as 'normal' tyres. However they cost a fortune! Standard fit to the 3/5 series I think?

Just paid £434 for a set of Vreds - delivered. I suppose add another £40 for fitting/Balance etc.
I'm not quite ready to fit just yet but the peple in the know say prices are changing very quickly so I did just that!

Good thread - thanks.

Have always liked the V'reds - they look awesome too.
Interestingly, on the site previously posted abvove, this table could be of use:

Table of tyres for the Z4 and user's comments - could be useful if more people add their views...

Good find  proves the point that just about anything you've heard of is better than a Bridgstone RFT! How the hell did BMW get it so wrong with these tyres?

I think I've ordered 4 x 452's for £425 fitted/balanced, but still waiting for the call to say in stock.

Have I done the right thing or should I have gone for the v'reds??

is their much difference in wear or comfort? This is mainly a comfort thing for me having been used to driving living room sofas for far too long!
