Replacing run flats with normal tyres..

Interesting that they mention in that article the following:

"We do however advise removal of runflats at your next tyre change and select a branded set of conventional tyre. There is no need to change all four tyres at the same time, It is perfectly safe to change to non-runflats in pairs (as long as you have matching tyres/systems on the same axle)."

Contrary it would seem to common held beliefs that you shouldn't run a pair of run flats with a pair of non run flats... :wink:
 
Don't think so? No issues with running a mixture so long as the tyres on the same axel is kept the same. Not ideal like, but if they're spanking new...
 
I'm getting quite annoyed with the firm ride and the sliding whenever I hit a pothole - however, I've just recently had my rear tyre changed and the other 3 were changed when I get MOT done in October. Since then I've done 5k. Is it worth changing now and selling the tyres that come off?
 
Yes. Might be hassle trying to sell depending what tyres/brand they are. But that's what I'd do :thumbsup:
 
My wife and I currently own 2 BMWs, a 2008 328ic and my 2009 Z4. I bought the Z4 this past April, and it came with run flats. My wifes car came originally with run flats. But, we lived in the New Orleans area, which is notorious for deep pot holes. The run flats suffered big goose eggs on the side walls and had to be replaced. After replacing several tires from this damage we shifted to conventional tires, and bought a spare tire kit, which included a jack, wheel, doughnut tire and wheel wrench in a nice black bag. It came from a company in the US, called Bavarian Auto, located in Portsmouth, NH, USA. The spare tire system was used only twice in the last 5 years. Once the RFT were off the BMW, the ride was amazing, I replaced them with Michelins and never looked back. As for the Z4, when the RFT need replaced, I'll go the standard construction tires. Here in New Hampshire, the roads are a dream compared to Louisiana. I advise, get rid of those expensive RFT on your car. I'd do two at a time, on the same axel
 
Re replacing run flat tyres with normally aspirated, I drive a Z4 2.0 S-Drive and would like to know what type/make folk would recommend? Currently have run flats 255/30/R19 91Y Potenzas … what should I buy in the non-run flat range ?

If you want the 'best', most folk will recommend Michelin Pilot Sports (4S i believe is the latest with 5 coming soon).

In the Mid-priced, i've done well with Uniroyal Rainsports, Kumho PS91 (or PS71) and Vredesteins.
 
Hi guys
I have practically new Bridgestone 19” run flats on my 2016 z4..the ride is hard as hell..do you think none flats will make enough difference to justify the change?
Anyone got any experience about this?? I really welcome your input…thanks

Vast majority are pleased with the change, loads of info on here about it if you use the search function :thumbsup:
