Just been looking at this and wondering if I should chop my Z in for it, what do people think?

Do you not fancy a good M roady for 1k more? Won't lose much if indeed anything, topless hooning etc etc, i'd be worried about selling that Porsche on myself.

The 996.2 Targa is a great model & Seal grey does suit it well
Don't be put off by the negativity of the web about the inherent failings of these cars & the fact 996s are unloved in general by press & public
You would still get great satisfaction from ownership & they do sound great & pull like a train when you put the pedal down .
As for the car linked ? I would want to know who had done the extensive rebuild & scrutinise the paperwork .
If all works out & the car runs+drives as it should then why not have a go ?
I didn't enjoy my time with mine as it replaced a 964 that proved too big boots to fill , the character & charisma just wasn't he same between water & air cooled
At 140k though i would want to be closer to £10k than £13k

If you have your heart set on a Porsche fix, then go for it. Personally not for me. Only 996 to consider would be the Turbo, with the better engine reputation. Not a fan of the interior though.

Yes to a 996, though I'm finding it hard to love that particular example.

Namely the condition of the interior and the fact it's had what looks like a JCV stereo fitted isn't all that appealing for me.

But based on the history, the recent engine work and the colour...

Thanks all for the advice. The 911 a bucket list car for me so thats why I am looking.
Having read a bit about the 996 engine its reliability does concern me hence choosing one with a rebuilt updated replacement but I agree about checking the receipts thoroughly Mr Wilks

I am happy with my Z but wish I had perhaps gone for a bigger engine/ higher spec combination.

I think I might keep mine for for the moment - especialy now the better weather is coming and look again next year :D

Well made the mistake of looking around on ebay at 911's again and came across this one. Looks like an honest car but the mileage is a bit scary given the engines reputation:

996 interior hasn't aged well at all - ghastly! Lets be honest that's what you the owner/driver will see 99% of the time. from me. The exterior apart from the rear profile just looks old and dated as well (those orange front lights... yuck!) and not in a 993/964 classic way - just old. That is all without the mentioning of any RMS/IMS issues which may come along.

Chris, know nothing about Porsches but that seems like a very good price to get into Porsche ownership and I'm not concerned about the interior or the orange indicators - looks like a posh Porsche to me

For gowds sake don't listen to me but I like it and can see why you were interested

Now find out what all the draw backs are to 120+ K mileage. 'Are you feeling lucky? Well are you?'

Good luck mate and remember I know nowt! But it's a Porsche like all the ones I lusted after as a kid - magic! Hook line and sinker at that price for me.

You'd better move on from this post . . . . . . . . :fuelfire:

:driving:

Being honest Chris its too much money imo for a gen1 996 esp with that mileage even if the history is extensive .
It shouts "bland" in silver with base spec alloys & the fried egg lights
A 51 plate onwards car has a nice look & are around for not much more than £9k
£7k max on the Rplate car if you went for it :o
