ok, so seems i have a sump gasket leak,i have done the rocker/valvetronic motor/cam sensor gaskets,just finished the oilfilter/cooler gaskets.And now i am left with this. my question is how much to replace(N52 engine) can it be done without subframe dropping or removal.I have looked and theer seems to be a couple of inch between the sump and subframe,i wondered if the sump could be dropped and the gasket wiggled out and replacement wiggled in.supposed to be taking the wife touring wales in the new to us Z4 but i dont think this will be happening now

It’s highly likely that the length of the oil pick up pipe will prevent that plan working. It’ll go right to the bottom of the sump.
I think the OP means can the gasket be separated from the pan and replaced with the pan undone but still in place with a couple of inches gap, anything is possible but I think it would be very difficult to get the old gasket off clearly without any bits dropping into the sump and potentially clogging the pick up pipe.
