Ive just put good year eagle f1 assym 2 on the rears and im having real problems. The TC light is flashing on every corner with no throttle and the tramlining is worse than with the runflats. The rear at motorway speeds is so unstable im genuinely scared at 70mph and yesterday it jumped from one lane to another. Ive still got runflats on the front.

Ive spoken to goodyear on the phone and they say its because BMW need star rated tyres. They said this is to do with the minimum/maximum size of the tyre and thats whats making the TC think the tyres are loseing traction. He said i should go back to runflats. I spent a good month reading posts on here saying the good year eagle f1 assym 2 were amazing on the z4 coupe so im a little confused.

Should i just match the fronts with good year eagle f1 assym 2 aswell?

You shouldn't really have runflats on one axle and normal tyres on another.

Star rated tyres is a load of rubbish. They probably need a good wheelspin and a few hundred miles to remove the oils that seep through the new rubber.

Is that the problem then its the runflats with the normal tyres? Ive put a good 300 miles on them already.

I've got Goodyear Eagle F1 assy. 2 on mine and it took a few hundred mile scrub in as Ben said after that they brilliant, there are a few posts about that same problem

No. Not at all.
I ran with runflats on the front and non-RFs on the back quite contently for 8 months.

As said above,
If they're new tyres, give them a wee bit of a spin on some clean, dry tarmac, then get a hundred miles on them.
star rating is rubbish.

Theyve got a fair few miles on them after a drive from south wales to north through the mountains and then a drive back to base in suffolk. Ive read all the posts on this issue and im still no clearer to be honest. I dont want to spend out on fronts if theres a deeper issue that this wont slove.

The BMW star rating is not rubbish but is more relevant on X3s & X5s that have a transfer box
It proves a controlled manufactured size that if not followed can cause expensive problems on X Drive vehicles

Very doubtful it would cause similar problems on RWD only BMWs

Rory, what tyre pressure are you using at the rear - I use a lot less with my Eagle non runflats - 34 psi at present.

How much tread is left on your front runflats? If 5mm or more I'd sell them and replace with Eagles, if 4mm or less I'd change them. I run 32 psi on my Eagle fronts.

a couple of psi difference in tyre pressure and a reduction in mm of tread seems to effect my Zed a great deal.

Hope you get sorted.

There 36 psi on the rear atm. Ive orderd fromts there getting fitted friday. Im hoping this sorts it out. The back is still weaving at speed and the tc light goes crazy on gentle corners with no throttle. Any advice on selling the runflats. Don't have ebay.

That's a fair point.
I merely meant to imply they were rubbish on our cars

Did another 150 miles today. Back end allover the place when changing lanes on the motorway at just 60mph! Im waiting for it to spin haha

Why haven't you just gone back to the fitting centre? Surely they are faulty items or not fitted correctly?

Almost sounds like they are different profiles to confuse the TC that much!

Im in the RAF and im about 400 miles from where i had them fitted. When i get the fronts done friday nearer to base il ask them to check for me. I got them off black circle's website which are supposed to be good.

Are you sure they fitted them the correct way? From what I remember, the sidewall has little arrows on showing the directions n they should be turning.

Yeah there on the right way. Im going to have them checked when i get the fronts done tomorrow. Nervous about it i hope having them match sorts this out. Anyone one half worn front runflats?

Somthe new fronts are fitted now to match the rears. All problems solved. Lesson for all dont have non runflats mixed with runflats. This may seem sensible but nobady really said this could be the problem.

Doubt you would have had the same problem if the other way around (RFTs on rear ) but as you have found its best to switch all 4 & especially as quality rubber seems to be getting cheaper

Except me in the first reply on this thread

Should be obvious really. Runflats are different to normal tyres and so will act differently.

So you're blaming it all on guys trying to help you with your problem? Lovely chap you are. If you re-read my reply I never once said they ''just'' need a good wheelspin.
