Ram Air Scoops ### £35 delivered

Ok, so I've had the welding and powder-coat costs back and I can do the air scoops at £35 delivered via HERMES. The only downside is that the two powder-coaters we occasionally use, now say they can't powder-coat aluminium?! The up-shot is the £35 is for the scoop being cut from 1mm mild steel and then formed, welded and powder-coated to your choice. It's not going to make much difference in weight (it will be a little heavier) and keeps the cost down also. Fire away with any questions etc. ## If you could all confirm you still do/do not want one ASAP, I can get the ball rolling. ##

First a massive thanks to ''Jingle'' for his help with this and supplying an RPI scoop as a guide.

I will be making a quantity of these from lightweight aluminium. I will be laser cutting the shape, bending the angles and they will then be sent off to be welded and powder-coated to look like this:

These are available from RPI at approx £80-£90 IIRC. They will be identical to the RPI ones (if allowed to say that?). I am looking to sell these for at least half of that price and possibly less than half. I'm just waiting for the weld/powder coat cost. It costs more to powder coat aluminium for some reason.

As with the skid plates before, I am just wanting to gauge interest and also for colour preferences. Red seems to be the popular choice ( I am going for red and so is Jingle) but if you have a different preference let me know. I am hoping to have the powder coat costs back tomorrow so will post a definite price then.

Quick question - from the instructions, it appears that these will require some self-tapping screws. Anyone know what size?

They come with 19mm self-tappers. The hole is 3mm wide. I was going to look into getting some and sending with the scoops.

So a 3mm pilot in 1mm mild steel - what size self-tapper does that require?

Just asking as I have a few BMW black m8 head self-tappers with built-in washers but they're labelled as 4.8mm x 19mm

The ones with the RPI are 4mm thick including the thread and 19mm long, so I would think the ones you've got should be ok, if not a bit tight. I will send some 4mm x 19mm with the scoop anyway.

No, that's fine. i just wanted confirmation that the £35 was ok. Had visions of making 50 odd of these and then people saying they'd changed their minds.

I have cut one for every-one on the list so worse case scenario is I have a few spare if those that haven't confirmed have decided they no longer want one.

The powder coater is now trying to charge £50 to change his "setup" to blue and £50 to then change to "red". Plus an extra £5 for each scoop in either red or blue!!

So I've told him to do them all in black, meaning I will have 55 black scoops. Plenty of spares!!!

For the red and blue scoops, I am waiting for two other powder coaters to come back to me. Annoying for those wanting blue or red. The only other option is for me to supply the bare scoops at a reduced cost and then you can spray them your colour of choice? The reduction in cost would pay for the paint easily.
