Cant you do a small aluminium batch? Maybe painted or even bare? I don't mind painting it myself.
I'm afraid that the extra weight from the steel will resonate (on bumps etc) and maybe over time crack/tear the plastic, so I really prefer an aluminium one if that's possible.

Yes, an aluminium scoop, even bare, would be preferred but if that's not possible I'll take what's on offer and so it's a 'confirmed' from me....

maybe weigh my original aluminium 1 and compare it to the newly made steel 1 and see how much a difference there is for the people who are concerned, at least that way people can make there own calculations/judgments :)

if still worried they can always buy the original i got for us to use as template, if not ill stick it on ebay

We don't usually shape aluminium so I'm not overly familiar with it. However, the scoops need two welds and the two companies who quoted to weld and powder-coat, advised that aluminium is difficult to weld and so couldn't quote for it.

Would rather just keep to one material to cut all together, send them off for welding/powder coating and send out all together. It will start becoming really time-consuming otherwise TBH.

Happy with the price and steel scoop. A few hundred grams is hardly worth worrying about. You eat more than that for breakfast.

I'm definitely confirmed anyway. Cheers Dan :thumbs-up:

l as opposed to 1.5mm aluminium (same as rpi scoop) my mental maths puts my version at twice the weight of the rpi.

Are you sure the rpi is 1,5mm aluminium?
It looks even thinner on pictures.

I know aluminium requires more skill to weld (especially thin aluminium), but I imagine that any qualified TIG welder should have the skills to do that.

The black example you have in your startpost, is that an aluminium pre-production one? (steel? aluminium?) or the original RPI?

If you can get a weight estimate that would be great

the 1st photo is my original RPi scoop.

if you are specifically after an aluminium scoop you are more than welcome to have the original for what i paid (£72 i believe, which was cheap) but personally im happy with the powder coated mild steel version as the small weight difference is completely irrelevant for me, but as your Z is a LOT more tuned than mine i can completely see why you are after the lighter version.

Yes, the one shown is an "un-named" one. I cant tell exactly how thick it is due to the coating but I would say 1mm minimum. The "un-named" scoop weighs 140 grams and the steel one will weigh less than 330 grams.

They will be cut from big steel sheets but if I was making just one scoop (steel example) I would need a sheet measuring 220mm x 200 mm and this would weigh 330 grams but would then be cut down accordingly and would then weigh less than the 330 grams quoted. You could possibly guess at 300 grams but it is a guess until they're made.
