Rob

You were one of those irritating b@st@rds with a bloody expansion pipe/can droning along at 30mph on my parents housing estate...endlessly.. :headbang: :fuelfire: :poke: :tumbleweed:

Not guilty, my fizzy would never have made it as far as Scotland
Rob

It was Nottinghamshire ..but it was probably your cousin once removed.. :tumbleweed:

Me..I’m saving my money for the ‘big turbo’ and new re-map

Re maps

I’ve just had a call from a pal who’s got a sporty Audi A3 - (RS3? )
He’s had it remapped and a dyno - He says it’s showing 492 Bhp and 700Nm of torque.

Well it starts at 400 bhp and 480nm ..so eminently plausible for a blown engine that’s designed to make its numbers on 92 Ron fuel on a 38c day. :driving:

But Ron it’s only 2480cc so must be already worn out

So 393 bhp is my new target on that basis..

Pooltee, if you can find an understanding MOT station you should go for a de-cat rather than a new exhaust system...you’ll get a distinct sound that doesn’t sound unpleasant plus better spool up time and slightly more BHP..

I am very tempted to try this Pete. Have you got a link for where you got your decat pipe from? I was going to go with the ultimate bhp one, but from what I remember the for wasn’t exactly straight forward.

Cheers

Paul

Hi. Just had my 1.8 Z4 remapped by A1 Remaps in Hull. I did get a custom stainless exhaust fitted by OLDSCOOLER. So all in all about about £800. The difference is absolutely unreal! Would so recommend the upgrade...

Could you post up a sound clip / video of the custom exhaust please. Helps me with my research
Hi. Sorry for the late reply. Yes, I will get a clip to you when she is warm and ready! 👍

Dear all, greetings from Istanbul.
I have just bought a z4 20i, and get it remapped. On dyno, it was 158hp (? Probably because 95ron/91-92oct) and 275nm torque. All stock, stage1 tailormade map made it 260hp and 455nm torque (which is also zf8hp gear limit). Car become absolute fun, this is what it should have been in the first place.

Not pushing to the limits now, until I make a Liqui Moly engine flush + 5w40 synthech and ceratec.

One question; do u guys use drop in performance filters? Or go with the original paper ones?

Best regards

Congratulations….personally I would avoid using DCIs and /or gauze type filters..

The E89 airbox design is pretty good and using a quality filter , Mahle, FRAM etc and you won’t limit performance but get good protection..

If the car is over 25000 km fresh new plugs is a good idea too

Thanks for the suggestions. It is 2014 model, with 80k km on it. Spark plugs and some gaskets have been changed. Car is fully serviced from authorised BMW dealer. I will try to keep OCI to 4-5k km/ 1 year.

I am also sure not to use any kind of open type filter for my setup. Even from the drop-in’s, I am looking for a dry one. Because back in the old days, I remember oiled filters were damaging air sensors… I will probably end up with a fine classic filter, which will be changed in oil intervals.

FWIW when I was dyno-ing mine it made 0.2 extra BHP with no air filter element in the air box..in 300bhp..

The BMW official maintenance program isn’t anything to write home about..oil n filter changes every 8km is prudent..

If it’s an auto a fluid n filter change would be good.. :driving:

This is the highest powered n20 I’ve ever seen verified on a dyno, it made this power using an n55 turbo & had forged internals. Eye watering :driving:

Can ecu remap really produce 455nm of torque at the wheels ?????

260hp and 455nm torque is corrected engine data. (Whp seems 225hp) If you can make direct comparison, wtq can be about 390nm?

Redarding auto, I would like to share an important info. We have just serviced my brothers 420d, 2014 with 150.000km, at ZF original service center. We did not have any complaints, only a slight vibration from 3rd gear to 4th gear hard pull.

ZF technician was very happy that we have chosen to change the oil&filter. Because the used oil was very dark and water thickness. Which means it was not making its duty… If we had driven with the old oil, his guess was 20.000km max, until a complete transmission rebuild!!! (As you well know, BMW says it is life time, ZF says 100.000km)

Isn't the gearbox rated to max 450 Nm of torque?

The auto box is rated at 450nm but torque limiter s/w will back the DME to comply with those limits…suspect that car used a manual box..
