Hi, looks like you’ve had your 20i for a while now-how’s it been?
Rob

Still makes me smile, hopefully more so after Friday! Other than a SmartTop haven’t modified anything else.

Had to change insurance outfits, Direct Line was a straight decline for 41% increase - haha - so moved to Chris Knott today, wonderfully refreshing service from them.

How many miles has it covered & have you had any issues reliability wise? :?
Rob

None at all - dealer forgetting to (properly) reconnect a radiator hose was about as close as I came to any problems - it’s only done 26k, always garaged etc. Don’t have to drive much, work from home. Tend to pick up the X5 keys more often.

Not ‘popped’ your latest yet then? :p

Do you mean has it broken? No, it’s in rude health-it’s just waiting on some paintwork to be redone by bmw and it’s back to normal

Hi guys,

Just picked up my E89 Z4 20i (2012) yesterday, looking to get a stage 1 remap done on it but i'm told it's not an easy one to do by the guys at Quantum. They tell me it's because of the way the ECU is positioned/ locked down by BMW. Been quoted £500 so wanted to hear if anyone in here has had their map?

How significant does the jump from 180 to 260bhp feel behind the wheel?

Cheers, Alex
£500------£500!!!! At least £200 more than it should cost, talk to Celtic tuning.

Been reading this. Get my S20i done this Monday by Riverside Racing. Will update when it gets sorted.

I’m surprised they are still open for business during the lockdown?

Hi. Just had my 1.8 Z4 remapped by A1 Remaps in Hull. I did get a custom stainless exhaust fitted by OLDSCOOLER. So all in all about about £800. The difference is absolutely unreal! Would so recommend the upgrade...

Could you post up a sound clip / video of the custom exhaust please. Helps me with my research

Pooltee, if you can find an understanding MOT station you should go for a de-cat rather than a new exhaust system...you’ll get a distinct sound that doesn’t sound unpleasant plus better spool up time and slightly more BHP..

Clip of my E89 N20 fitted with Supersprint decat system non resonated only having rear silencer. Best played over your tv for better sound quality.

I agree it does sound better but does the de cat send the test figures way out of spec?

Provided the car is fully warm should scrape through ok...clearly doesn’t meet euro 6 standard  any longer

Don’t take it the wrong way , and I appreciate that is more difficult but what we want to hear is the sound on the move, up through the revs, part throttle , full throttle..Overrun, downshift etc..

The rev ing whilst stationary reminds me of 16 year olds with Yamaha FS1Es..

It may be an age thing..

If I can borrow a Go Pro and fix it up at the rear I will put another clip up with the car on the move etc

What I like with the decat and retaining the rest of the exhaust system is that with the exhaust valve still working if you want to / need to you can drive nice and quietly whilst making adequate progress :driving:

Not sure with ‘more encouragement’ that the sound then becomes constant / more intrusive?

Peter, to be honest it is much quieter than I expected and you can drive nice and quietly. There is no droning in the cab and if anything the car sounds.much less tinnier than with the OEM system. If I can get a Go Pro then I can put a better sound clip up as the one I have done does not do it justice.

I think it’s a bit like ‘handling’ ..you got to be there / try it to see if it’s your bag...

I’m glad you are enjoying it..

Me..I’m saving my money for the ‘big turbo’ and new re-map
