I think IF something like this happened, wherever it was I would be looking at staying overnight at a premier inn or something rather than a drive to and from the event in a single day.

The ideal place would probably be on a farm where they do camping, clamping and chalets and ask to use the grain store when it's empty before harvest to play with the cars.

Sounds like it would be a great event, but really needs to be hosted by someone with workshop space and a lift!

And while South Devon may have sun in the summer aren't the roads all choked up with grockles, with most of us just adding to the numbers?

Years ago I ran the Kings Lynn Capri Club. In the summer we used to do food'n'fix days. Some of us would muck in and sort out people's cars while those less mechanically minded would run the bbq, bring cakes, beers etc. Would be fun doing something similar.

Unfortunately very true, the best driving times seem to be spring and autumn. Kids back school and grockles back home. :D

Depends where you go really. Stay away from the main arteries and the roads near the coast and its great. My parents live down there in real farming country near a working village and there are loads of fairly quiet twisties :driving:
 
Intermediate steering shaft was finally replaced last Friday. (Sorry, was a bit busy with my 'airbag modules on tour' roadtrip and forgot to update).
The old shaft did not have play in the lower UJ as suspected, however it would only extend halfway and there was a fair bit of lateral play in the extending part of the shaft. Seems the internal bearing has collapsed. This is usually caused by someone removing the steering column by simply yanking on it, which over-extends the shaft. The proper way is to tap that shaft down off the steering column first.
Anyway, all done. It really is a simple half-hour job once you know what's what.

The car is now all back together. Only outstanding jobs I'm aware of are a new badge for the boot and replace the front plastic trim inside the roof. Years of clunking shut have cracked it quite badly.

Both these jobs are classified under cosmetic as far as I'm concerned, so without further ado, pressured by the arrival of another project tomorrow ( :roll: ), I've booked this one in for an MOT on 12th December.
Worst case is that I'll know what else there is to do, but hopefully it'll mean the car is simply needing a clean up and can be offered up for sale just after Xmas.

I was dubious whether the 2.2 would work well with an auto box, but I have to say I was pleasantly suprised.
The only gripe with my manual 2.2 is the low gearing on motorway trips. 3k rpm in fifth is only about 65mph so it can get a little noisy if you're pushing on. But the auto is higher geared in top and a much nicer car to munch up the miles with.

Yes it is a bit noisy at motorway speed but more than makes up for it driving around our twisty up and down roads in Devon. :thumbsup: I don't do many long motorway trips so its fine for me. :thumbsup:

Same here but I just did around trip up to Manchester over the weekend and ended up setting the cruise for engine revs rather than speed.
Quite attached to it now though.

It’s fast enough for me to enjoy the driving and the sound without breaking the law. I love it :thumbsup:
 
It passed the MOT................. on Friday 13th.
Advisories on the front drop link dust covers. I had checked them and thought them fine but Mr Diligent wasn't quite happy.
New ones inbound and will be fitted asap.

So now it's going to be a case of getting some photos and putting together a For Sale ad. Watch this space in the next week or so.
Looking at a figure around the £2300 mark if you know anyone who may be interested.
 
Ed’s dad now has this up for sale on fb marketplace. I’m currently sunning myself by the Red Sea, and the signal is rubbish.

He has basically copied everything Ed and I recorded on the spreadsheet.
