Tbf as a young lad I would have loved something like this (regardless of PlayStation) so good on you for the transfer of knowledge.
Another way to see it might be that the kid will do some work on the car and get paid for it by means of the profit. The situation may come that no monetary profit is made, he would however have gained some important skills!

I have (no doubt) now ruined this thread and for that I apologise to the forum unreservedly. I would suggest, Martin, you start another thread on the 'project how to buy my neighbour's kid a playstation' vein so everyone can blow smoke up your arse and you can suck up the praise. I promise to keep quiet.
Those that want to see me as a 'disruptor' or a bad person....feel free, I really couldn't care less. That has never been my intention; I just say what I think and don't go with the 'let's be nice or say nothing' attitude.
Believe it or not, I initially was concerned with Martin being mugged by someone. I don't like anyone being taken advantage of, no matter who they are.
My intentions are good. My way of explaining them may be terrible. :?

Moving on with the original topic :roll:
Due to the weather gods being unkind, haven't been able to do much just yet.
Sunday morning we went over the car; Ed scribbling in his new notebook as we went.
Not got everything teed up yet, but he has a list to start with.
We whipped out the aftermarket radio and refitted the original that had helpfully been left in the boot.
Whoever fitted the replacement obviously had a bit of a struggle getting the heater vents out first. So we had to dismantle them and realign all the vanes where they'd been forced out of their pivots. Small hands were a great help!
There was also a dash cam that had been wired in an 'interesting' fashion. Piggyback connector to the fuse for the seat heating, and an earth wire run down the passenger side door sill and wrapped around a bolt on the passenger seat: which pulled tight every time the seat was pushed back.
So that came out too.
Ed went home with those bits and has already managed to recoup a few pennies by selling the radio.
Of course today, with school open again, the weather has been lovely and sunny!
I've removed the M stripes from the front grille. Couldn't wait any longer, they were offending me.
Gave the car another check over and honestly can't find much else wrong.
The aerial had been replaced by a whippy of unknown origin? Just a straight bit of wire with a plastic knob on the end.
It was seized solid, but I masked off the paintwork and soaked it with PlusGas. A bit of persuasion with a pair of pliers and it came off ok.
Now lightly greased and put back in place. Ed is ordering a shorter whippy from Amazon, so I'm leaving him to swap that over.
The wiper motor prefers to park halfway back up the screen, with an interesting clunk. It probably just needs a clean, but I think we'll swap the whole assembly with one I have in the garage. Then Ed can take the motor apart in his own time and see how it all works.

Well done for saving another zed and helping someone along the way!
Realised I hadn't given any updates: mainly due to an influx of other people's zeds needing help. :roll:
However, we have made small progress on this.
- Removed the aftermarket radio, refitted the original and managed to rebuild the centre vent vanes that had been pulled out of line during the previous radio swap.
- Removed the 'M' slat covers from the front grille!
- Removed the plastic trim in front of the radiator, rubbed down, treated and painted the rusty slam panel.
- Adjusted the driver's door glass rearwards to eradicate the whistling of air through the gap at the rear.
- Fitted a replacement intake boot as the original was badly split.
- At the same time removed the disa valve for inspection - found to be in perfect working order.
- Carried out an oil flush and change.
- New air and pollen filters - the pollen one was the original from 2004!!!
- Scuttle panel off and drains cleared.
- Wiper assembly replaced as original had play in the linkage and didn't park correctly - had a spare so that was the simplest option.
- Washer bottle removed, cleaned out, filter cleaned.
- Roof motor relocated to the boot - it was completely immersed in water and the motor was beyond saving - replacement fitted.
Still to do:
- Replace front and rear dampers, top mounts, bump stops
- New top cover gasket
- New wiper blades
- Replace steering intermediate shaft - lower UJ has play in it
- Probably replace EPS motor, though the light hasn't been on for quite a while so maybe run it for a while in case it was a glitch.
No great rush to do all this: fitting it in around school, football, homework, etc.
The car will be ready to move on early next year, so if you know anyone in the market for a clean, refettled 2.2 Auto at a competitive price, let me know.
