Project PlayStation

Here we go again

Some of you may remember me mentioning my young apprentice, Edward, who has been helping out with various jobs on my fleet over the last couple of years: to the extent that his dad now has a 2.5i E85 too!
Well Edward wants a PlayStation 5 to keep up with his mates.
Rather than simply hand over even more cash, Scott (his dad) came up with a plan.
He and I go halves on a zed, rescue it and sell it on. Edward does all the research on OEM, finding parts on eBay, keeping a spreadsheet of costs, helping out with jobs when he is able, and hopefully learning a lot about the cars and also how to manage the costs involved.
Once it's sorted and sold on, Scott and I take back our investment, Edward rewards me with a bottle of malt (he's not aware of that part yet  ) and the profit goes to him getting his Playstation, but earning it rather than just being given it.

So this week we have picked up a tidy 2.2i Auto. I drove it back from Birmingham and it really is a nice little motor.
Needs new suspension, intake boot, and an EPS motor, plus the usual little cosmetic bits'n'bobs. Step one is remove the 'M' stripes from the front grille.
No rush really, as it'll probably sell better in the Spring.
I'm looking forward to another project with a purpose; and hopefully passing on some knowledge to the next generation.

That's a great plan Martin and you also tick your 2.2i auto check box as well :D

Which reminds me: it also has a bit of steering play, but has had new rack and tie rods. Next step is check the intermediate shaft. Hence me asking you if you still had one?

Love that - and the cars not bad either

That sounds like a great project - wishing you and Edward all the best with it.

Maybe I don't think the way 'normal' people do (I'm pretty sure I don't TBH) but let me get this right.......

Your neighbour gets you to buy half a car; you do all the hard work to improve it's value, then when you sell it his kid gets a play station, he gets his money back and the play station doesn't cost him a penny.
Sounds like a brilliant plan.....for two of the three parties.

Is this Scott fella a salesman for a living, per chance? If not he bloody well should be.

Tbh, couldn’t give a toss what you think. All the parties involved are happy with the arrangement.
I’m giving, not taking.

You are right. I apologise. You effectively buying your neighbour's child a new Play Station is very generous of you.

Are you being exceptionally dim?
We both take back our investment first.
I walk away with the satisfaction of teaching the lad something, saving another zed and a bottle of malt.
If you are so self centred you don’t get this then fine.
Follow another thread.

But Scott walks away with his (50%) investment back and his kid getting a play station which he hasn't paid for......your hard work has.

And I'm the one being dim?

I am not criticising you, or the kid. It's your mate Scott who gains from this.

You’re right. Dim’s not the word. Self centred definitely seems to fit better. Along with selfish, unhelpful and antagonistic.

That is a fabulous scheme to entice a young lad into some knowledge with a mutually beneficial arrangement, which will be rewarding to all parties, well done you

I am only the last one of those, and that is only sometimes! You don't know me, so please don't assume.
I was not being antagonistic in this instance, despite how you have defensively taken it.
I wish you luck and hope it all goes to plan.
It is a good thing you are doing, of that there is no doubt.

I wonder if a z4 could accommodate dual controls 🤔
We could make that Zed a real life console for Edward 😊

You found reverse then

There was no need for that.
OK, if we are going down that route....You are being taken for a mug by the kid's father, and you seem happy about it.
