private plates

Yes I have got one - RN51 ZED - RN for my initials and the ZED is obvious, its just a pity I am not 51 or born in 1951 but hey ho, I tried to get them to space it as RN5 1 ZED for RN`s 1 ZED but they said no :(

RN51 ZED Cant ask more than your initials followed by ZED

I have one because it has a 'special' meaning to me that no-one else would get.

During the Falklands war in 1982 I was serving in HMS Valiant and the nuclear submarines involved were referred to in low security signals etc by a simple 'code' that related to the order in which all the SSNs were built, regardless of whether they were to be involved in the war or not, ie:

A1 HMS Dreadnought
A2 HMS Valiant
A3 HMS Warspite
A4 HMS Churchill
A5 HMS Conqueror
etc, etc

On return and getting ashore, I happened to see that the personalised plates A1 DLH and A2 DLH were available from DVLA for £600 and £300 respectively. As A2 was the code for my boat and it was followed by my initials I opted for that one and still have it on one of my cars. :)

I bought this purely as a cover up plate. A similar combination is selling for double what I paid

Personal Plates are very expensive here in Ontario, and one cannot re-sell them. I had thought of getting them for my last car, the 2003 Porsche Boxster S, and had several good choices available to me, but delayed a while, then sold the car after five months, so it would have been a large waste. I bought special plates for the Mazda MX-5 Miata, showing " NOREEN B", and now my wife thinks that it is HER car !

Nice story
I worked in the shipyard they were built in - pretty sure I worked on Valiant - definitely A4 & A5

Lived in Barrow-in-Furness and worked at Vickers myself from 2006-2008 when I was 'loaned' to them for 2 years during the build of HMS Vanguard. :)

You survived the nights out on the 'Gaza Strip' then! :D

I have them on my other car and van, old style, M17 FEN and N17 FEN, the 7's are a little more curved than they should me, so looks like Mr Fen and having the other on the van causes a double take..

I would have bought one for the Zed, but she came with her own.. SPOOKY or what!

I'm looking (just for fun) for cheap 'Marlon' plates - there aren't any, unless I go for one of these less obvious ones:

Even the obvious plates seem very obscure to me. Is DAP33R supposed to be 'dapper'? Seems a real stretch, especially for the cost of them. Annoying thing is, even with the ability to create any combination of 6 letters and/or numbers, I still can't think of a decent plate for mine  .

Never thought I would (due to knob factor) but have just taken the plunge. Gone for a 5 digit plate that's meaningless but similar to the one my grandad had on all his cars.

Think I paid £700 for mine but was just when they came out I wanted D3 STR but was another £600 so went for D16 STR instead. Few years down the line D3 STR is like £300 now :headbang: I love mine makes the car look better plus as it's dateless whatever car I buy age wise it doesn't matter.

Can we see it?

i have T15 PVW, T12 PVW and T15 WPV. to complete my collection i want T12 WPV but if i buy that i would need another car too so i aint buying it lol

I have G9OSC, which I display as G90 SC - wife has G20 GC. Nothing like matching plates to demonstrate our love for each other :-)

Thought about buying E9OSC, but like Taz, would need another car to put it on!

Not yet. Will take a few weeks to do the switch.

Never had one and never will , I think they are a waste of money , I'd rather give the transfer fee to charity .
The op did say chip in with an honest opinion !
Each to their own though , most of my friends have them and love them .

I just got my first private plate PH51PAW. A group of friends got me it for my 30th Birthday a couple of weeks ago pretty cool present I was rather surprised. PAW is my full initial it looks good on the car I'm very pleased with it.
