Power Mirror Folding using the Key Fob

Hi All

Just purchased a 2015 Z4 so I am looking for information listed below:-

I am looking for anybody around the Nottingham or Derby area who can code my key fob to fold my mirrors in/out when locking/unlocking the car, not expecting this to be free.

A question I would assume has been asked by a few people can coding be done to have the roof fold and unfold using the key fob or is it a case of purchasing a module to do this?

Thanks in anticipation

Dave

It depends on the options installed on the car. Mine has the right options from factory that allowed for programming of roof and mirror folding with the key. Windows too.

Do you know the model and trim of your car ?

Hi Marcoose

The vehicle has the following fitted from the factory:-

Automatically Dimming Rear View Mirror
Comfort Package
Cruise Control with Brake Function
Deep Sea Blue
Door Mirrors - Folding - Automatically Dimming
Enhanced Bluetooth Telephone Preparation with USB Audio Interface
Extended Lighting
Extended Storage
Interior Trim - Brushed Aluminium
PDC - Park Distance Control - Front and Rear
Wind Deflector

Hope this helps?

You can do the folding mirrors when you lock/unlock from the keyfob quite easily - but I never managed the roof.

You might want to check out an app like bimmercode on your phone & do it yourself - there are a few things you might like to have a look at?

I did folding mirrors on keyfob, 5 flash indicators, and used it to disable the bmw voice assistance after fitting Apple CarPlay.

Well worth the small cost to buy the app plus you will need a bluetooth ODBII adapter from Amazon - all done costs about £50.

Hi
Thanks

Been looking at a Vgate obd and then use the bimmercode app and having a go myself but was just putting it out there just incase anyone was in my local area who has already done this mod.

Door lock folding mirrors is a bit hit and miss with Comfort Access, but it should be able to be done though. Now there are specific values that you have to change with Comfort Access, but I'm not sure if Bimmercode does this or not, if not then it has to be NCSExpert/NCSDummy and a laptop to alter these values. I can do this for you, but unfortuneately I'm not available until after Easter, I'm only over in Grantham, Lincolnshire.

Some people say that with Comfort Acces you can have the roof close on the fob, but I've never actually had anyone prove it, ie; it's OK to say it but no evidence!! Opening the roof on the key is straight forward and, in fact, normally set from the factory. The other alternative is to fit something like SmartTop.

Hi AnubisZed

Thanks for replying is fitting a smart top is something you can do?

If so drop me a message so we can discuss.

After Easter is fine pick the car up next week and I am sure the weather wont properly pick up till May time

Thanks
Also a Dave

I've got a 2016 with the comfort pack but never been able to code the mirrors with bimmercode - been able to do other bits (wiper parking, beep alarm confirmation).

According to bimmercode it can be done - experience doesn't support that(on mine anywayl

Hi Jasonn

Ok sounds like a Smart Top box or something Similar.

Will do some homework and see what I come up with.

Thanks for the reply on this one.

Dave/OP/All, my 2016 35is has Comfort Access. This US model did not come with fob-operated folding mirrors, roof opening, window-opening, etc. I’ve looked at apps to enable these functions. It would’ve required at least 2 apps. Then I’ve found this local bloke that programmes BMW goodies from his driveway, for the same cost as the apps, in less than an hour. A no-brainier IMO.

OP, I recommend you try to find your equivalent local guy. I don’t know how close you are to Dave. But Easter is less than 40 days away. Totally worth paying him a visit.

Oh, where are the bloody photos of your new ride ?

My 2011 35is has comfort access and closes on the fob…you do have to be fairly close and the battery has to have a decent charge…

I see having taken the centre console out there are two comfort access aerials at either end of the tunnel…

Not sure if non comfort access systems also have those two aerials..?

My 2012 20i didn’t and from what I saw there was no way that it could be made to close on the fob..

Hi B21

Going to look to change the battery just reading the forums to see whats recomended and I believe it will also have to be paired/coded once fitted?

Comfort package is adding cruise control, a wind deflector, more storage, parking sensors and auto-dimming mirrors for a cheaper price when spec-ing the car when new..it’s not comfort access..

Comfort access vin code was 322…folding mirrors vin code was 313

Maybe tip your vin into a decoder?

Hi B21
Been messaging AnubisZed (Dave) and he suggests something like a Smart Top module so maybe look at that going forward looks like I need to empty my wallet lol

So yeh - my 2016 35is does not have comfort access - but does have folding mirrors.

I did code them to close / unfold using the keyfob when I lock / unlock with bimmercode - so it 100% can be done. Hold the lock button for approx 1 second when you lock to fold the mirrors.

It did take me a couple of attempts, but searching the t'internet found the answer in 'expert mode' of the bimmercode app.

If you just enable folding/unfolding mirrors on the standard screens, it does not work.

You also need to code (expert mode):

CAS : FH_KOMFORTF_MIT_SUBST
CTM : KOMFORT_SCHLIESS_FBD89

Hi

Been in contact with AnnubisZen (Dave) and he is willing to do this and check if other things can be coded and hes not that far from me, going to look into getting the Bimmercode route though

I coded my mirrors to work with the key fob back in 2019, there is a thread about it somewhere here. Back then Bimmercode didn’t work and they told me it couldn’t do it and I had to use Carista in the end. Maybe this has since changed and Bimmercode can now do it.

The issue with coding the folding mirrors on lock is only for cars fitted with Comfort Access. If you don't have CA then it'll code without issue, but if you do then it doesn't always work with the apps (Bimmercode, Carly etc), and this can be down to whatever other options or functions were requested from the factory (without extensive research into what does and what doesn't make it work, I couldn't possibly guess which ones are responsible), but this is sortable with a laptop and NCSExpert.

Now when Dave's car is with me I'm going to see if I can find the definitive way to make the roof close on the fob with CA. If I can then I'll make this info available, if not then I'll say so (there may be other "things" involved here!)

Sounds like a plan - look forward to the update.

Seems bonkers that using a smarttop is the only way - feels like it must be codable somehow doesn't it.
