Well, a fortnight ago I was quite cynical - half expecting a decent cock up for the nation to be ashamed of, and not particularly interested in what events were coming up. I wasn't expecting to watch any of it. Now it's finished I'm trying to remember what I did in the evenings again! I've gone from saying I'd not watch any of it to finding it on in the background every night. There's been some brilliant moments and I've even ended up cheering on people I'd never heard of 16 days ago!
It's actually been quite a good fortnight, and I've got to say I've enjoyed it. Been plenty of stuff I've missed and glad I have though!

Finally though, it's legacy in this house is that it's not getting me off my arse and back on my bike or running up a nearby hill....
 
I too was a cynic. To begin with, I only watched because SWMBO was TV hogging. In the end, I really liked watching it, and tuned in for big events like the 100m and 200m finals etc.

Plus the hockey was good 8)
 
I'll reserve judgement on the whole 'legacy' thing until they finally decide what the stadium is going to be used for...

But I agree ^^^ - was very skeptical beforehand. The opening ceremony irritated me, but as the games progressed I've been pleasantly surprised by the spirit of the crowds and the population as a whole, and also by the grit and determination of athletes...
 
Echo what C-J said, complete sceptic beforehand, and now sorry it's all over.

Was it worth the money? Probably not,

Was it worth the lift it gave the nation during what seems and endless stream of bad stuff on the news, and a regenerated feeling of national pride and Patriotism ?

To Prick Romney who said London was not ready to host a modern Olympics I say this.
Eat s**t and die weasel.

To the French nation who took the piss after day 3 on how many medals we had not won I say this,

Who are ya? who are ya? who are ya? :P
 
what doesn't make sense to me is the funding, if your sport as done good then you will get better fonding in the future, surely the sports that didn't do well need the funding

It's just a 'vehicle' for politicians and the likes to jump on and blow a load of smoke up our 4sses. . .

Same as any other week in Blighty then!

Money could have been better spent in communites, homeless, benefit fraud.

Just my opinion tho !
 
We are gettin there Taz, we are getting there, we have shown a major improvement since Bejing, remember we only got 1 (one) medal at Atlanta, alot of funding comes from the National lottery not just Government and since the Lottery started we have a shown a steady improvement.
Lets see how we do in Rio with no home crowd, that will be true litmus test. :wink:
 
Outside of the ticket allocation and G4S, it's been a well run event. The atmosphere in the Olympic Park and Stadium was great and we didn't have any queues for tube travel or getting in/out of the Olympic Park, which was much better than our usual trips into London for work.

I think the net benefits was worth the investment, given how much money gets wasted on numerous failed government projects.
 
Absolutely loved it and feel a bit depressed now it's all over. I couldn't give a flying stuff how much it cost because life to me, hopefully, is a sequence of memorable experiences. That one will never be repeated but I'm grateful to have witnessed it. Roll on Rio. 8)
 
Did I here some where that Yorkshire won more Gold medals that Aistrialia. :thumbsup: Got to love that and I was born in Lancashire.

Loved watching the swimming. Loved the remote control mini's, with there CLS look wheels, running around in the field events. :)

In theory yes but under performing sports such as swimming need to make more effective use of the £26.1 million that they received over the past 4 year cycle and need to analyse how successful sports such as cycling and rowing achieve this. That is the challenge.

Have to say, this is exactly how I felt pre Olympics, but have done a major U- turn, I now think, the money could have gone to homeless and benifit fraud etc, Should it have gone there, maybe not, we already throw ££££££.£££££-illions at these things. Every Day / week / month of the year I fork out money in tax, mortgage , fuel , etc etc, this I have to do in order to maintain my life, do I spend a few £££ at a decent holiday now and again, Yup, I could spend that money on Tax, mortgage , fuel , etc etc.
I personally think the Home olympics will show big benifits to Britain both Financially and commericially, It could turn out to be the Best money our government has ever spent.

Well Done London you came through shining :thumbsup:

what about sports like judo, wrestling, fencing etc etc, these sports don't even get a viewing on tv

The olympic 'legacy' has already taken hold in Liverpool. . . .

Thousands are reported to be wearing tracksuits and trainers as we speak!

I feel quite empty. Never watched as much sport as in the last 2 weeks. A proud GB-ian here.

Best thing that has happened to this country in years and made even better with the number of Golds we acheieved. I'm not into watching sports that much except motorsport but throughly enjoyed the competetiveness etc. Just what this country needed at this time, beats watching rioting and the Sh%%%y side of this country of late.

i feel bad, i fail to see how 2 weeks of good sport can suddenly make this country great

within a week the news will be back to normal etc
