Porsche...I don't get it

At Goodwood today we saw 2 very gorgeous looking Boxsters, and from what I read in the press, they are amazing cars. What I didn't get, is why would you pay £20k more and buy a 991? We all know 911 Converibles just look wrong (that rear hump is sickening)...I just think the Boxster could be the best of everything to most people....at a price yes, £60K (nicely loaded)...

I for one would - the Boxster is just plane ugly and in my eyes looks horrible.

Not to mention that I would get very tired of the "can't afford the real one" comments.

Porsches have grown on me over last few years and eventually we will end up in a Porsche but it won't be a Boxster but the better looking Cayman.

i can accept that people buy the 911 because it is in their eyes the only Porsche and that they can afford it. I just don't understand or agree with it, for me the only reason you would, is because you need a 2+2

Sars, good point

I'd like to see a Boxster and a 991 go head to head to a cross section of people, who are not necc Porsche people....and see how they vote?

Worth a look (from a future boxster owner) :P

I bought a Cayman S two weeks ago and I love it! its so mush less lairy then a Z4M!

But that's what makes the M so much better, the lairyness!

Went out in a friends brand new Boxter S in Munich last week. Lovely to sit in, glorious noise (even without the sports exhaust), surprisingly tail happy. Really nice little car.

I personally wouldn't buy a 991 Carrera. For me the entry point into 991'dom would be an S model. Why? Well the Carrera just isn't powerful enough and it's an absolute rip-off price too. As Stark says, a Boxster S is probably as quick if not quicker in the real world and the new shape is very striking looking as well (best Boxster design by a mile).

If you think the Z4MC is lairy, have you ever driven a Z3MC?

No...! Are you offering a spin??! : )

In all honesty they're both great cars (Z & Porsche) just depends what you want from it. I've heard so many scare stories regarding the 3MC handling, would love a go though!

Woo7dy is right - only reason i went for the Cayman S over the Z4M was because currently I'm doing 400 miles a week over the winter and the cayman was the more "everyday" car out the two. Wasn't an easy decision and it took a bloody long time to make my mind up.
A Z4MC in the new year when i dont have to drive as much is a possibility! :driving:

To be fair I think I need to drive a Cayman S also to make a fair comparison...!

I just love the rarity of the MC, the 4 exhausts, the sound, the way it goes. It just turns heads and gets people interested which is lovely. Slightly egotistical yes but that's one of the reasons we buy these cars right?! As stated by Mr Wilks in the admiration thread earlier, people don't seem to know what it is, specially the M as there's no Z markings on it...

But I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at a Cayman S, it's just that you see more Porsches on the road, which I guess is a good thing and shows they're popular for a good reason. But the exclusivity is what I love about my car.

Anyways, I'll shut up now!!

Oh and PH photography I think we need to see some pics of your Porsche (and previous Z?)...
