Panic attacks.... AN UPDATE.

Hope it goes well, ronk!

Carol - while I'm sure you're dead impressed that we've all suddenly become armchair psychologists :P, I'd keep an open mind in regard to a potential anxiety/stress-related diagnosis. I was in the same place about 3 years ago when I left work in an ambulance with my heart rate pegged at about 100 for three hours. Nothing to do with my heart condition (although this is the reason why they "upgraded" me to critical care) - it was just down to a pure buildup of pressure at work. While it will be a relief if it is just anxiety, I wouldn't necessarily say that the path to fixing it will be any smoother, particularly if you don't actual feel stressed out at all.

That said, my sister had a really tough time with mood/extreme anxiety when she was younger that I guess many people (me included) suspected might just be in her head or growing pains - turned out to be a benign tumour on her pituitary gland! It's pretty incredible that these things can be identified and treated these days. As gov says, if it is a physical issue then the treatment path might actually be very straightforward.

Out of interest has anyone had the two separate day angiogram test? Had the first yesterday and instead of the treadmill I had a stress injection, bloody horrible feeling though it didn't last long, and the 2nd test is next week. Off work at the moment (self employed) as if I do anything remotely physical I go into AF very easily even though I'm on beta blockers, had to spend the night in A&E last week as had resting heart rate of 190 just from lightly sanding some paint, awful episode, pretty fed up at the mo and quite concerned what the artery scans might find, though it's all curable. Heart scan ultrasound show's some enlargement, quite pissed that had this 7 yrs and been miss-diagnosed 4 times, we could've had this sorted years ago. Hey well onwards and upwards, it's not life threatening. :)

I was starting to wonder if I had done the right thing electing for surgery as I hadn't had a serious episode of a/f for a few weeks - I was probably looking for an excuse - but the last few nights has been dreadful , so there's no option I'm off to hospital tomorrow
I'm only taking my iPhone for emails etc.
Hopefully I will report in sometime during the day.

Good luck Ronk, hope all goes well, and to anyone else suffering from this condition, hope you all can get sorted , sometimes it just comes down to managing the condition, mysef medication and being retired has helped , however even now any physical excertion leaves me exhausted, strangely tho driving doesn't seem to bother me, I can drive all day , hooning or bimbling,
Cheers Maurice

John I had the treadmill test and then the test that your having next week... several of the people who went ahead of me had Stents put in, with me they told me the arteries were to narrow hence the bypass I went through in September... I found the angiogram really interesting there is a bank of monitors to one side of you and during the procedure scanners whiz around you feeding back to the monitors... all painless and over pretty quick... Good Luck with it.... It was five weeks ago today that I had my triple Bypass and I am now feeling pretty good... just waiting for the all clear from my consultant next week...

Cheers for the reply Maxsam, the Angiogram is just to rule out any artery problems in my case as it's the heart that's playing silly buggers. The Northern general in Sheffield now uses an injection instead of the treadmill to stress the heart, however it's very un-pleasant, but over quite quickly thankfully.

Great to hear you're doing so well, good news.

I've just escaped from hospital and feeling a bit bedraggled - the procedure seems to have worked but I will have to undergo tests in about six weeks time.

The procedure was a little uncomfortable at times and downright painful at others - some extra pain relief was administered and I got over it - ward to ward took two hours!
The good wishes by all one here have been very much appreciates - Thanks one and all.

Hi john-89 hope it all goes well for you I was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation at age 26 having suffered with the same problems as you I am nearly 64 now so you can live with it, as the years passed I could do without the medication I just get the odd chest flutter now but if have an ECG done it prints out that I have it still.
