Orange 1.8

Usually I agree with Maniac but on this occasion ..

between this z4 being concieved and arriving at the market place sadly the world changed a great deal and the number of people stupid/lucky enough to be able to spend a fair amount of money on non essential stuff mostly dissapeared and I suspect BMW are trying to cope with a situation very differant from the one they were expecting , hence the deals and small engines , there is quite a large part of me that thinks that BMW will abandon this segment and there will not be another Z4

Yeh get with it you lot with big engines, you'll be telling me next that you don't have iPhones and Sky+ :o

Regrettably I think you may well be right about the next Z4 Chas. The fact that they've spent buttons on the LCI is a clue. Let's see, if there is going to be one, in the next 12 months or so we should start to see rumours appearing in the motoring press and spy shots etc.

Maybe that's a whole new poverty spec angle... cos the engines are so big and thirsty, we can't afford anything else ;)

I try not to poke fun at cars with smaller engines, I really do... but its an easy target. I never mean it in an offensive way. I am a bit of a snob tho, always have been, can't help it :P
I know what you mean, anything with less than 3.4l isn't really an engine is it... :poke:

Completely understand BMW's need to ring out as much profit from the Z4 platform as they can. I don't buy it that introduction of a 18i affects the resale of a 35i. The bigger and more powerful end of a car range always depreciates faster than the lower end.

18i owners aren't going to get blistering performance, but they will get a nice boulevard cruiser and a bit of badge snobbery so good luck to em.

That price tag puts the 18i Z4 in the same cost ballpark as the similarly powerful Audi TT Roadster 1.8 TFSI, and £2375 cheaper than the Mercedes SLK 200.

Yes but that Audi is getting on for 200kg lighter (1,305kg vs 1,495kg).

For some people its not about the engine its about the looks of the car. Likewise for others its not so much the looks but the engine size and power matters more.
I just drove Mr M's Scooby home from Birmingham and its not a, er, pretty car shall we say but it goes!
We all pick our cars for different reasons and the 2.0 is enough for me but even if I had a 3.5 I wouldn't give a monkeys what other engine sizes the car came in. You pays your money and makes your choice and its a good thing imo there is a wide choice to pick from.
Edit: oh and I love the new colour.

The pictures in that report seem to be the 35i model. :o

In practical every day terms how much faster is the 35is over the 28i? Is the difference that big? What about if you factor in the extra fuel stops?

Being am owner of a 2.0is for only a month and a member of this forum for the same time, Ive been really impressed with both the car and the forum, but during this short time, Ive noticed the contempt with which some view the 2-0 engine cars. Personally I dont see why, but again I dont have a problem with that as each to their own. In the past Ive owned some pretty quick cars including an RS4 and admittedly loved the performance, but have now come to the conclusion ( may be getting old ) that you cant use that type of performance in the uk anymore - if the chronic congestion doesnt get you, one of the "safety" cameras will.

0-60 in 6.9 may not put you in the premier league these days but come chaps its hardly slow. ( and I must admit that I dont miss my daily trip to the petrol station )

Its not slow at all Napastar and I've not seen any contemptuous posts on Z4forum (I don't think its that kind of place)
