Opinion on private reg

Been looking at a private reg seen one I like the look of and fits in with my nickname the only thing that's bothering me is my car is an 07 plate and the private reg will make it look like a 53 plate should I really make the car look older than it is what are everyone's thoughts???

Hi Chezsherman, if you like the personalised plate, then the look about the 2003 shouldn't matter too much, though I can see what you mean, the newer style plate is a bit rubbish isn't it? Did you manage to find many others that you liked?

Get a prefix style plate, to anybody else the current style will just be a standard plate.

Not sure this plate would ever be seen as a private reg. if I couldn't see your username, I wouldn't have been able to guess what the plate was supposed to say.

Using the new style plates for personal reg's never really works imo

Im afraid I agree. I'd never see that as a private plate if I followed it. Unless it spells an obvious word, you have to keep it short and lose some number characters.

OP, sorry but I don't like it much, normally I'd keep schtumm but you did ask for opinions, try & find something that works for you in the prefix style as others have said, or if you love it then just go for it, I suspect the fact you have asked for opinions here that you already have doubts though....

+1 for prefix if you can find one that works.

I bought a V plate with my initials. Worked well on my Z4MR. Doesnt work quite so well on the Breadvan as that's an S plate so too new for me to use a V :headbang:

Yeah.... as others have said. Doesn't really work when using the new style plates.

I like private plates simply because they take the age off the car, I generally keep my cars for about 5 years till they start giving me trouble, I think making your car look older in terms of the No. Plate would be a bad move. Just my opinion.

Agree with the comments above, the prefix style plates look better IMO.

On a side note, only buy directly from DVLA. The plate you have suggested is on their site for £250 including admin costs for putting it on your car -

This is what I thought, although it really says 'SHSERMS'.

I think a prefix style plate with Initials at the end is classy and looks good (for a small budget).

I have bought a few plates for various cars HII OOU HII OOA H8 OOW . All £250 each.
I think initials names are pointless because they mean nothing to the general public viewing it. I go for meaningless but looks good on the car. Cheap way of doing it.

I think initials are OK and have them on both my cars and I've got to the stage in my life where I couldn't care less about what the general public think.

i got one for the wife a while back EM04 LOU her name is Emma Louise so it works, but on her old car it just looked like a normal plate. now she has a car that is a 58 plate so it stands out more. i then got mine, user name DAZOLS number plate D12OLS the old number plate work better and you have more scope of cars to fit them on. if you change your car later down the line you will be stuck with 2003 and onwards.

as said buy direct with DVLA they work out cheaper in the long run, these cheap plate sites dont have the VAT and transfer added. the DVLA is an all in price and only pay for the plates to be made up.

doest bother me that some silly people will think the car is 16 years old lol
