So these are the wheels I have on my zed. The keen eyed will know these are no genuine wheels. I have a fair amount of kerb rash on all four and think it's time I give some paintwork a try

What are your opinions on what colour they are? I'm leaning towards anthracite grey?

The thing is I went to Halfords and held up a number of caps against the wheels. I wasn't convinced with a number of different colours. I'm thinking the caps aren't a true reflection of what the colour will actually look like

Thanks in advance

I might be wrong but they look like they are diamond cut.
Sorry SS, I'm a bit of a novice. Does that mean I wouldn't be able to spray paint the edges with a similarcolour? Any idea?

I believe your right, they are diamond cut. They're the e46 m3 alloys, or replicas of. I'd recommend keeping them diamond cut, they look great on the car

Of course you could spray paint them but you’d have to do the entire wheel, you wouldn’t be able to match them as such. But as pointed out by Special Kay you might be better off keeping them as diamond cut as they do look great in that finish, however to get rid of the curb damage you will have to get them professionally refurbed.

I'm sure I watched a few youtube videos related to refurbing diamond cut alloys with various diy tools including various grades of sandpaper with great results. It may be worth checking online to see its within your diy capacity. Good luck

Here's mine if it helps - I painted them black. Although it was a terrible job, and I am going to strip them and repaint silver or anthracite I think ...

Silver , anthracite or something in that family . Im not a fan of black wheels , I know a lot of people are though , just my opinion.

I have anthracite wheels on my Z, if someone can share with me how to post pics on here that are within the specified dimensions, id be happy to show you lol.

When replying (or quick replying) there's an "Add files" button below your input text box. Never noticed it as well for quite some time. If you're in the quick reply box, it's nice the red "post reply"

Just upload the picture and past in-line

If they are 'diamond cut' then they'll have had a clear lacquer put over them too.

However, even on genuine wheels a refurb or two means the wheels become slightly porous, and you end up with bubbles/clouding in the lacquer...and you're then at the point of deciding whether to strip & re-lacquer every year, paint them, powdercoat them, or replace them.

Thanks Gents!

After watching a few videos on YT, I am now an expert on diamond cut wheels

Think I will go down the route of sanding away rash and lacquer. Then a good polish before another coat of lacquer over restored areas.

No I just need to find the time to do it

here's anthracite against silver grey met.

It tells me my photo is too many megapixels wide/ tall. It won't shrink the photo for me I suppose lol.

If you can get the file size lower than this, it should be good. There are free picture compressors online to help with it. Strangely enough, it compresses all my pictures after adding it (or I assume so)
