Operating The Roof When Moving

I have just seen a video clip on You Tube that E89 can open/close the roof in 18 seconds when moving at 24km per hour.

Did anyone try it?

There is an interlock that prevents the roof operating whilst in motion, something to do with the centre break light on the boot, though I think it can be disabled.

On a similar thought, has anyone tried to operate the electronic hand brake at speed, if so what happened?

You can start to move the roof when you are doing less than 10mph I think, and as long as you stay under 10 mph it keeps operating. I have certainly done this.

If you apply the electronic handbrake when moving, it acts like an emergency brake (you need to hold it). I think the brake lights flash when you do this.

Not tried it yet mainly cos I have got the car yet but during the extended test drive the salesman told me that the roof can be operated as long as the speed is around walking pace, and he closed the roof while driving around the forecourt so it clearly works. Forgot to ask though if you need to keep the roof button prodded during operation or is it 'one touch'?

7 days to collection hopefully!!!

Roof operation is press and hold.

I was told by the salesperson that the roof will operate up a speed of 20mph. I tried to close it during a downpour whilst exiting a motorway in slow moving traffic. It got half way and then refused to go any further. In the end I had to cut across a lane onto the hard shoulder and stop to close it.

waiting for mine to end 3 yr warranty then will get moduel fitted to enable lots of features as in the U.S. market :driving:

Would this by any chance allow you to close the roof using the key remote? If so I would be very interested.

yes have seen a module on the internet they are about £130 and you would have to get it fitted by someone who knows about car electrics the all the functions are possible, :driving: but BMW uk don't like it , this will void warranty
