Drivers Window Not Operating Properly With Roof. SOLVED

I've got the setup with the remote roof up and down from the key, i.e push it 3 times in a certain configuration to open the roof, and another configuration to close the roof.

The problem is when I open the roof the drivers and passengers window goes halfway down (all good so far) the roof comes down them only the passenger window rises up again.

Then I go to close the roof and the passenger window goes halfway down again as it should, the drivers window goes all the way down, roof closes, passenger window fully closes and the drivers window just stays fully open.

Very frustrating.

I've tried the 5 second reset thing that's all over the net, but that hasn't worked.

Is this something Carly can fix or is it a bigger "coding" issue?

Thanks in advance.

Paul.

I think you may have a GapTech roof module fitted as mine is coded to the key and I just unlock the car with the remote and keep my finger on the unlock button to drop the hood, and keep my finger on the lock button to raise the hood. I believe the GapTech is usually located under the ashtray. I'm sure someone that has GapTech will be along shortly to tell you if there is a reset procedure etc

Has your battery been disconnected recently?

I always have a bit of bother trying to reset my driver's window after a battery disconnect. I have a gap-tech installed.
The last time, I found I had to delete the error codes in the window module, then I could do the reset procedure given in here:
https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=89080

As noted in that thread, it may also be possible to reset it with three consecutive locks/unlocks combined with the normal procedure, but it seems to be a bit hit and miss with me. I suspect the sequence of button presses has to be precise for it to work.

It's likely a window reset issue.. there's more than one method too if you research the forum, I know in the past when I've disconnected the battery one technique never worked and the other did so worth doing a forum search.. it may even be a sticky in the e85 how to possibly?

Yes I'm pretty sure it's the GapTech thing, I kinda remember the guy I bought the car off saying he had some sort of module fitted. Not sure where but I'll take a look under the ashtray when I clean her this afternoon.

Yes battery has been disconnected. It definately has something to do with disconnecting the battery as it was fine for years, then as soon as I took the battery out for a while it started playing up.

How do I reset the codes on the window module? Is it this thing you're talking about?

I just had a new one fitted on my drivers side but the problem was just the same as it is now before the new one was fitted. I mention it as I assume the mechanic had to reset something to fit this new control unit?? Total guesswork on my part though.

Thanks buddy I'll have a search now.

That is just the switch unit, not the control module.
To erase the fault codes, you need to use an appropriate OBD tool, although I think it shouldn't be absolutely necessary; it just helped me the last time.

have you tried the method in the link above ?
i.e.:

Erasure of initialization:
• Open door window glass fully
• Operate power window switch in "Open" position four times within 10 seconds

This erases initialization of the power window, anti-trapping protection and toll function are inactive.
Check whether one-touch control (toll) function is inactive, otherwise repeat procedure.

Reinitialization:
Avoid a break between the two steps!
• Open door window glass fully
• Operate and hold power window switch in "Close" position (second switch stage)
• Once the upper end position has been reached, hold power window switch in "Close" position for approx. 2 seconds longer
• Open door window glass fully
• Operate and hold power window switch in "Close" position (second switch stage)
• Once the upper end position has been reached, hold power window switch in "Close" position for approx. 2 seconds longer

Then, lock and unlock the car doors 3 times with an ignition on/off cycle each time (Perhaps this is just for good luck :P )

Thanks for this.

It's a bit convoluted but I think I get it. I'd give it a try now but it's pissing down with rain and the important thing is that the window works with the roof so I can't try it until it stops.

Probably around September.

Right, after trying loads of different options the only one that worked was the one below. Everything now works fine except the one touch window up on the drivers side. Down works but not up which might be a safety feature which can only be switched off by going to a dealer so I'm not going to bother.

Anyway, here it is. This only works with both doors closed and with ignition in position 1.

1. Open the window fully and when it reaches the bottom, press the button a further four times.

2. Then close the window fully and hold the button up for couple of seconds.

3. Then open the window by approximately four inches, and then close it fully and hold the button for a couple of seconds again.

Job done.

I hope this helps someone else out in the future.

Cheers.

Well done
I bet you could get the one-touch up to work if you persevere. That was also part of my reset problem.
I'm guessing that your driver's window does not auto-close all the way now when the roof is closed from the fob?

Yeah it does that. Quite literally everything works as it should, except the one touch close on the drivers window.

I read somewhere (which could be rubbish) this might be a safety feature which is just on the drivers side and can be coded out at a main dealer (or someone with the right kit) but it really doesn't bother me that much so I'll just leave it unless someone can tell me how to fix it.

But yeah, the remote functions work perfectly now which is sooo much more important. Being able to close the roof and windows when walking away from the car is something I would've been really annoyed not to have.

Alll is well! Thanks for your help mate.

Cheers

Yeah one touch close has to be coded in the GM5. Which you can do at home if you have NCS Expert or BMW Scanner 1.4.
