Now very Happy with my E89 35is purchase

James you would be completely crackers in my opinion why go backwards when you have a totally stunning car and don't worry about the roof as 95% of the things we worry about just never happen so be grateful that you have such an amazing car and enjoy life and what you have at this time as I know that if you change you will regret it and that DCT is totally amazing plus you would have to look after a soft top that gets green on it :) come on man take some smelling salts and wake up

I am thinking of trading in my 35IS in for it, do you think I am mad ?

James Bond would drive a Z4M Coupe, of that I have no doubt. Trading your current pseudo-coupe for an ///MR would definitely be out of character, so I'm voting yes too :D

The only Bond that had a habit of driving roadsters was Pierce Brosnan, and he was a pseudo-Bond anyway :D

The DCT is as good as the manual box on the Z4 MR or MC is bad !! I got rid of my Z4MR mainly because the box was horrid !! THe 35iS DCT is superb (and the car is quicker :) )

Oh god no.. Not again.. After the massive not happy thread too.

If you still don't like it, sell it. Life is too short.

I'm keeping mine. Yes they're complicated cars but you're worrying over what ifs. Plus ultimately, it's just a car. If the roof ever did fail (and very very few have) then just have it fixed.

There's also another angle while you're worrying about what might happen to your brand new car without many miles on it... go search for e86/5 M issues or more specifically engine issues. There's a bit there for you to worry over too, wear on specific items (such as bearings) that if not taken to bits and checked or replaced could be very serious. Sure its a rare failure, just like an e89 roof. Top Notch Servicing on these engines is an absolute must. Then you have a gearbox that is, at least when cold, pretty unfriendly to the point of annoyance. Plus, the upkeep / costs of running and maintaining an M are several times that of the e89. Warranty is a lot lot more, servicing is double or more the costs dependent on the service type. Sell the e89 if you're not happy by all means, but don't go M thinking its without fault or cost. If you're into track days and have the space to enjoy the M, its a fabulous car (within my limited experience of one) but if you want something a bit more everyday then the e89 is it, with the torque and DCT. My two cents.

Agreed.

When I saw this thread again I thought "yeh - he's having fun lets have a read" then I find you are worried about yet more stuff.

Sounds to me like the IS doesn't make you happy mate. Sell it.. But please buy something bulletproof as buying an older M would make no sense at all if you are worried about things breaking. What's more reliable than a brand new BMW covered with 3 years warranty and breakdown..? Virtually nothing I guess...

Personally I beam everytime I see mine. But then it's Orange so who wouldn't :D

Rent an M for the weekend then rejoice in the relief that you bought an e89.... :fuelfire:

Sometimes a reality check works - I did that with a Landrover some years ago !
I bought a Discovery instead because the reality of the drive woke me up.

Actually scrub the above and buy an M as well and have both, it'll cost you a lot less than the frying pan round the back of your swede and divorce when after you've flogged the 35is, bought an M then say " you know what petal, I really miss the 35is, I want to buy another"...
