NORTH EAST RUN, Sunday 1st March

Thanks All, We've had a great day too. A great turn out this early in the season! It was exciting and lovely to meet up with old friends that we'd been on runs with before - people we've got to know on previous runs. We're always meeting brilliant people through the Forum and our newbies/first timers today, were just the same - top folk and with a background in motorbiking so impressive on the road.

Although it was a bitterly cold wind, the weather was kind for most of the run. Beautiful blue sky in parts and visibility excellent - until Chezsherman took the lead :? then it started to rain, then sleet - we couldn't see beyond 400 metres at times and the sleet was horizontal :o . Just as soon as it started to lie on the road, it disappeared and we came out the storm and back into good weather. Everyone enjoyed this section so thanks Craig :D . (Just a note - we were the only ones that kept their roof down - even through this section - windows up mind!)

First run of the season and we we're lucky with the traffic - the early sections were relatively clear so we were able to press on and enjoy the route - we were hampered by a few vehicles at times on the section to Blanchland but they were soon despatched and we remained free to enjoy the road

A nice stop at the old school house in the Village for tea and coffee where Cherrym made a call on us - nice to see him and his mate (who's started to take part in some of our mid week runs - good to see the pair of them but Mike couldn't join the full day).

On over the Fells we dropped the pace a touch due to the road conditions but the weather was kind and just the loss of 4 Zeds on the very last part of the route into Middleton and lunch, led to a bit of a wait until they read through their route sheets and came back from High Force! - Well the route sheets were useful then!

Lunch was excellent - open fire and good food and a chance to have a good chat. Out into slight rain and Chezsherman took the lead into the storm - and on to Alston. Outside the 1618 Café the decision was made to spend more time on the road and head to Hartside from Alston (and even on through to Melmerby on the other side - good call Brian). So that's what we did and had a clear run right the way over to Melmerby with one car even pulling over to let us press on through - magic!

3 Zeds took the opportunity to head off home from the West side of the Pennines and farewells were said - until the next meet. Then the terrific run back up to Hartside Café - what a road and what a thrill - absolutely terrific. A smooth run back down to Hexham with the last section to the A69 baulked by a couple of bits of traffic - ah well can't all be good!

Everyone was relaxed and happy at the Wentworth in Hexham (Toe-side made his apologies and headed off - thanks for coming so far for the day - much appreciated) and we replayed some of the highlights over tea and coffee and importantly, everyone is keen to get out again.

Yep a very satisfying day in the Zed - thrilling fun and enjoyable time on the road with like minded owners and really nice folks. :D Thanks all glad you enjoyed it.

I'll post some photos up as soon as (I've run out of space on Photobucket so will have to sort that out first)

:driving:

Lovely run out Thanks Paul and Steph , military precision organisation as normal.
Great meeting every one with some new faces and plenty of 'crack'.
The first day of spring had some mixed weather but the soft tops were down (most of the time!!) Paul and Steph having the highest % of soft top down!
Thanks

Saw you guys today, I was up at Hartside top cafe and followed you down, I was in the white F80 M3

+1

Nice turnout for such an early spring run

Hope to make some of your later runs P&S and catch-up with you all again in 2015.

Had a bit of a problem with my new camera - dreadful results but I think we may have the answer for future use - we'll have to wait and see. The next problem was photobucket which I'd filled - once I'd cleared enough room I then went through their laborious and slow editing process. . . . Heyho - here's the poor results and they don't do the day justice at all!

Didn't get around to taking photos at the start - too cold and too much to do - anyone take any?

Heading down to Corbridge

Here we are crossing the bridge at Corbridge after some great driving on the back roads from the start - not too many cyclists and hardly any traffic so we had a cracking run

The parking at Blanchland (like penguins keeping warm by keeping together)

Parking was tight - it's all right I know the owner and trust him (But that was close)! :D

Check out that blue sky after we left the first coffee stop and headed over the fells. . . . :D

A great turn out for such an early run this year - some newbies and some of the regulars - fabulous roads - well worth it!

Been through Stanhope and took this photo op on the way to Middleton in Teesdale

Poppy - one of our regulars now and all prepared for the conditions!

Wouldn't you want to be out on these roads!

Really disappointed in this shot - the sleet was horizontal and you can just about make out that it had started to lie on the road. . .is that Alpina losing traction?!

Well that's the scraps I managed to put together from the disappointing shots - many I had to delete. The run up and over Hartside was terrific but didn't get any shots of this or the return to Hexham when the weather again had returned to a beautiful blue sky.

Just one more photo for Poppy - as we decided to head over Hartside to Melmerby and back, we never got to see High Force Waterfall. Steph and I had recce'd and timed the walk there during our preparations so, as I did promise (and for those that haven't been) here's what you could have seen!

Thanks to all those that took part - see you all again soon we hope. Paul and Steph

Note to self....bring the camera!

Next time as well as booking the weather in advance can you also book a helicopter for some nice aerial shots too

I wonder if Steph could operate one of those new radio controlled quad copter things - stick a camera on that and we're sorted!

Must apologise for coming past on the A69 Mort - noticed in my rear mirror some plonker came steaming up behind Dave1971 and his ///M, behind us, right up his rear (as they do) then took off when we pulled over - well just to make a point I cogged down a couple and pulled out behind him - as the speedo got inappropriate and I felt the point had been made, I found myself gliding past at not my usual limit +10%. Don't know what got into to me  Hope you all got home safe - we got home a little quicker than normal for us, as MrGit came and joined us after the A68 and we had ourselves a steady run back to the A1

Great meeting and chatting - its gonna be really useful having a natter about future routes.

:driving:

Yep, the low Zeds pick up a lot of road rash. We've just resigned ourselves to a front end re-spray if we ever sell.

Really liked seeing your Coupe on the road. Our Zed is also stratus grey and I thought yours looked really impressive so I'm hoping ours looks as good.

:driving:

Thanks, yeah am sure it does, you're just missing a tin top thats all !! :D

As you saw - even in the sleet :o we'd need a tin opener for the kind of driving we like. Your Coupe did look nice though - very classy

:driving:
