Norfolk Zed Rescue

Never had such a true gent getting me out of trouble with my old Zed. As I said earlier, my car would be only worth scrap value if it weren’t for martins willingness to help me out. For any newbies reading this posting, anything is possible with this forum and its experts. Don’t be afraid to ask!!! My faith in mankind has been restored after months of being told “ sorry pal, can’t help you” by the so-called professionals and main dealers over here. Martin is a proper gentleman and I can’t wait to meet val as I’m sure she’s a diamond if Martin is anything to go by. Ps. Sorry Martin. I forgot the mushrooms on the full English 😜. Long live this forum and its experts.

Just another +1 for Martin's roof motor relocation skills, mine was done by him yesterday, the 47th one he's done according to him. He was happy to talk me through what he was doing (I was really interested how it all comes apart and works). Plus he gave me valuable steering wheel/steering wheel trim advice. One of the rare occasions where I was happy to part with money to get my car worked on.

I need this person in my life (Norfolk zed rescue) I’ve a 2004 e85 2.5i that needs the experience that he has. If someone could forward me his number or means of contact it would be dearly appreciated (new to the forum and don’t know protocol or how-to etc)
Thanks
Neil

Hello Neil,
It's me!
I'll PM you my number.
Whereabouts are you, and what help do you need?

Bristol but will drive to you. Few niggles but want and need someone who knows the shortcomings of the model, things to fix and prevent etc. car currently in Milton Keynes with steering/electrical issue letting me down whilst visiting a family member in hospital. On second mechanic in the 4 weeks since owning and desperate for someone who knows the nuts and bolts of the thing and specifically what to look at to avoid further heart and wallet ache - email is [email protected]
Best
Neil

That’s a bit drastic Neil!
Colb is in Cardiff.
I’m also away from next week until 4th June.
If you really want to come my way then possibly have to leave it with me and fetch it once fixed.
You should have my mobile now on PM if you really want to head this way

Can you just stop going on holiday? You are hardly ever in Norfolk so to call it Norfolk rescue is pushing it a bit :poke:

Hi

I really dont know what im doing on the forum so please excuse me when i inevitably get it wrong!

It appears that you know what you're doing so wonder if you can help.

My son impulse bought a 2006 Z4 2.5L automatic. Trying to help him out figuring what's wrong so he doesnt have to scrap it..

It started having intermittent power loss, stalling at low speed and engine light coming on. He went to a small local garage who hooked up and produced codes. This was some months ago and he’s now lost the code printout! From memory, it referred to the following:

P0171 – this one we remember
Oil leak – sounded minor
Something to do with banks
Vanos issue

The garage said they weren’t knowledgeable enough on this car but replaced spark plugs and ignition coil. Then they sent him to a BMW specialist.

BMW specialist thought it might be camshaft positioning sensors or the timing chain but dismissed Vanos. They replaced the sensors and said if that didn’t fix it then it must be the timing chain and that would cost £3500 to replace which sounds way off the going rate. And “thinking” it might be timing chain doesn’t reassure me, especially charging that amount.

The engine light comes on intermittently and It has occasionally stalled at crawling speed. He says there’s a ticking sound but not rattling.

I’ve been reading about how unlikely it is to be timing chain but other possibilities - timing chain tensioners being a known fault and wonder if it could be that. Also read about timing chain guides potentially being problematic. Don’t know how easy to fix though.

I know lack of codes isn’t helpful for figuring this out but to my mind he needs to take this to a Z4 specialist who doesn’t “think” the problem can be solved with a fix that costs as much as the car. Any input would be really appreciated, including any great garages that really know their stuff on the Z4s - somewhere around London or over to Bristol.

Thanks

[ref]ash1212[/ref], I'm not really close enough to help you. Not sure of many other enthusiasts around that area to be honest either. Only recommendation I can think of along the route you mention would be RBM in Hook. Very highly thought of on this forum. Hope you can get it sorted ok.

Ash 1212 I'd recommend Ross at RBM as well. He's been looking after both my cars for over 5 years now - my 3 Series is going there for a service on Thursday!

Here's a link for you:- https://www.rbmhampshire.co.uk/

He runs a couple of loan cars if that would make life easier for you.

Thanks for your recommendation.
