So if we hadn't have had lockdowns or the vaccine I wonder where we would be now? :?

Tim.

Probably dead!

Think you're spot on there Ron for many people, just think of all the effort gone into the vaccine, rolling it out yet there are the the stubborn immortals who can't be arsed to spend an hour out of their busy lives to get the jab :(

Tim.

A friend of my daughter (39) an avid anti vax is now suffering from the bug - she was a big brother / Bill Gates is controlling me merchants!

My work colleague is still off with long Covid, signed off now until middle of August, been off work mostly since Christmas and only came back to work briefly after Easter and went off again with exhaustion. She will be starting a 12 week Covid rehabilitaion programme soon. Problem is there isn't much know about it or its long term effects.

I'm wandering if you catch Covid if long Covid is a reality if you have received both jabs :?

Another work colleague has just messaged me to say the App has said to self isolate for 10 days.

I still think going back to normal on the 19th is a mistake untill as many people as possible have received the vaccine, won't be suprised if another lackdown comes along in the Autumn.

Tim.

I agree, the 19th is bonkers!

I suspect it’s because a lot have had a jab so won’t be as likely to die or otherwise affected by it. The Numbers will be acceptable to the U.K. Government.

Herd immunity attempt by the back door i wonder?

Someone said to me months and months ago if there was no lockdown, no tv, radio or newspaper broadcasts about covid, would we really think that this was a worldwide pandemic or think it was as bad as it is being made out?
You wouldnt know unless you actually had it.
I am not putting the virus down at all as I know it has been deadly towards certain groups.

Wander into any hospital before we had the jab and you’d have your answer Nictrix.

True Ron, but I think there is still an awful lot of the population who haven't received both jabs or even one, not reasuring that there was mention last night infection rates are soaring and becoming rife, and hospital admissions are slowly creeping up. Source.....BBC News, shock horror :o

No which is why I think it's banal going to a virtually complete open society in one step and hoping on a wing and a prayer the great British public take the sensible approach

Haven't we been here before

Come on the Professor - spell it out!
Ok, you don’t seem to have any faith in the current attempts to control the situation - What would YOU do?

Keep it simple - no quote or links - YOUR idea,

A simple explanation will do - then people might realise just how stupid we’ve all been.

Right this second?
Open up, back to normal, keep the vaccination programme running to anyone that wants it and make sure we know when the elderly who have had their vaccines already are at risk again then get them re-vaccinated if they want it.
Keep an eye on hospitalisations and deaths from COVID and be aware of any new variants and whether they change the current landscape.

Easy enough?

So given that the following is true:
1. vaccinated people can still catch and spread the virus
2. this virus mutates rapidly and easily
3. the vaccine is not permenent and will require re-vaccination on an ongoing basis.

What do you suggest? Just batten down the hatches, lock everyone inside, shut the economy and wait for bankruptcy to obliterate the country?

No, a cautious approach, I can see some nice mutation coming along that will bring us all back to square one. What's another month or two to ensure more of the population gets vaccinated.

Problem is with Boris he's a chancer which is dangerous.

Tim.

Currently 86.9% of the population, does it need to be 100% is that the "cautious" number because its impossible.

Isn't that % for 1st dose only?
