Just curious Stevie as to why the bar that the replaces the track rod end to the hub is so long, I know why you're using rose joints but there looks to be plenty of room to have the steering arm further up so it could virtually touch the hub which would lessen the lever effect which would be what you wanted in my mind? Less tendency to snap, although I'm sure it's made of a hardened steel, and the shorter the bar the less chance for it to develop some play through wear etc. There's obviously a reason for it but I can't think what it is.

Anyhoo just idle curiousity.
Hi John. My Mk2 Escort quick rack that's now fitted has been fitted in a totally different position to standard. This was because the V10 sump is very bulky and wouldn't allow the rack to sit in or near original position. I've had to have these spacers machined to bring the steering arms back into alignment to correct bump steer. When we set up geo's we maybe able to reduce the length.

Cheers Stevie, there has to be a reason for everything, sorry it was so trivial but it just got me wondering.

Hi John. Trivial it isn't, I was very concerned about having to re position the rack as can cause major steering issues. Having to drop the track rod height is always a compromise and as far as I'm concerned you are correct it can and probably will exert more strain on the hub. I'm still looking at reinforcing this area once we can see it operating under load.

Just can't wait to see and hear this Q car, as Bing has said it looks just like any normal zed (apart from the quads) and a testament to your tastes and skill
Thanks Sars. Factory was always the plan from the beginning. I felt that there wasn't any way I could better the Z4's look, so leave well alone.

Sorry for this Stevie, because there's no contributory value to this post, but...... Ooooooooooooooo - sooooo many shiny bits

Bing they won't stay clean as I promise this project will be used, but not abused. I'll have to try a little harder and spend time giving it a bit of TLC.
Couple of pics sorting out undertray that doesn't match up to M series bumper.
Just trying to adapt the original undertray with a infill to link the bumper.

Getting tantalisingly close stevie
Oh your so right Mark, every time I open up the workshop I get a real buzz from looking over it. I just want to take it a blast.
It's all down to the weather getting better before I venture out with it.

This question has probably been asked and answered, but the thread to too long to search through - what sort of performance do you expect from this spectacular piece of engineering in terms of bhp and 0-60 times?

you cant admit that you do that often

If you have a lot of power, 0-62mph is very difficult and not that interesting, as you cant use all your power at least not on street tarmac (2wd). So on this car you might get a number that is surpassed by something like a audi TT-rs. But the 62-124mph part will be very interesting on this car. Probably under 9 seconds.

I haven't thought about how quick it'll be in all honesty. Rear wheel drive will always be a disadvantage nowadays, especially what with modern traction control systems. Gearing wise if memory serves it'll do 47mph in 1st, 75mph in 2nd, 114mph in 3rd, 148mph in 4th, 175mph in 5th and potentially 202mph in 6th at 8500rpm. The Z4 yes will be a very quick car but point to point I've built far quicker cars, tho these are all wheel drive machines.
The whole reason for my build was to have something fairly special, yes probably going to be a real handful that needs proper respect but something that needs tamed.

Something like tuned mitsubishi evo turbo's (and other japanese stuff) or also european?

Mostly Subaru's that I specialise in, running them around 450/500 in both flavours is a very quick car.
There are customers that always want more tho,and that's where you run into reliability issues. They lose that daily driver appeal especially the over the top 3.6 stroker engine I build from a Subaru SVX block and drop it into a Impreza. Silly money in these sort of builds, also silly horsepower.

I didn't check all 47 pages but are there any videos of this beast starting up?

Just checked the date on my I pad and that was 30th Dec 2014 the first time I fired up the engine. I'm shocked it's taken me so long completing my car, but this year I hope to enjoying driving it as much as building it.

Had to figure out how to fill the screen bottle that now sits in the front n/s bumper. So remote set up required.
Even managed to use a BMW filler neck from a 5 series.
