Newbie looking at the E89

Mr Argyll Andy wouldn’t recall if the button made much difference as he had it taped down so that it stayed only in Sport mode

Right cheeky @rse  i know it was a wee while ago, September last year, but I’m not going to disagree with you. As soon as I get in any of my Zeds immediately after pressing the start button the next thing is to press the sports button. They were only driven on comfort default by mistake

Yes well worth considering those 30is as there don't seem to be too many of them around, whereas there seem to be plenty of 23is.

I've not had both sizes of N52 engine in a Z4, but I did swap a 325i for a 330i a couple of years ago and there is a noticeable difference! :)

Hmm I’m starting to worry now about the 23i but the car I drove previously had way more acceleration and the sound was great. Yes Ming’s car is amazing but it’s too much for me sadly.

I’m looking again at the red M-Sport

Ash, are either of the 30i’s that Sean linked close enough for you to drive? I personally prefer the grey one but would want to know exactly what they mean by part service history. The silver one, higher miles but FSH and I’m not so keen on some of the mods but everyone’s taste is different.

At the price of the red one I’d definitely be considering those 30i’s in the mix

You’ve said Ming’s is out your budget but there’s plenty of similar cars maybe just a bit older that should be achievable in your budget. That said for me it would be 6 cylinders and I’d be waiting to make sure that I got the things I wanted. As previously said, your test drive today has added an upgraded stereo to you must have list, again something important to me too

Both lovely cars, they are both around 4 hours to get to them 4 hours back, I’m hoping for 2 or 3 cars in the same direction and on the next day off go visit.

All I’m after is a Z4 in good condition around 10k it shouldn’t be this difficult, my list is a 23i, manual, good stereo and not white, if I lived up north I could have bought 50 but as soon as I can get a day off the bloody things sell. I want to view that red m sport but my next day off is 2 weeks time...

The black se today looked perfect on paper but the scratches were just not acceptable to me, I’m not after showroom condition but there has to be a line.

Ash, if you are not happy now then no point buying it as you will be pee'd off big time in 6 weeks time.

Have you spoke to the dealer about the red one

I did go with the intention of buying, I had insurance and hpi report ready but it wasn’t to be, it just wasn’t right.

Yep I’ve spoken to the dealer about the red one and he wants me to visit. Just have to see if it is still there when I get my next day off.

No point in buying for the sake of it - you will be unhappy and AA has stopped me at east twice asheknows I want something specific, mind he makes everyone else open their wallets

I am sure a few others will pop up between now and then

Fair enough l totally understandable but given the chances of 2 or 3 cars that meet your budget/criteria being together and tying them all in together I think is quite unlikely if I were you I’d concentrating on finding one car that meets your needs and pursue that.

For the money the 30i is the way to go from what everyone tells me - maybe worth the drive

Don't panic @smash

Took me 4 month's to find the right car for me. VO had to have heated seats and wheel, cruise, Msport package, storage package,
PDC front and rear ETC. (Not bothered with idrive i don't use sat nav, hate them, old school and follow sign posts  )

Bought unseen (refund gaurenteed in writing  ) and travelled to collect from Folkestone to Yorkshire to collect (1st class train ride, which was nice)

The right motor for you will pop up

Oh and found and purchased in October just after a £1000.-- price drop

Hi Ash,

How about this 30i - it is an SE, looks nice to me and has heated Msport seats. cruise, wind deflector, auto lights, PDC, bluetooth and FSH - is 5 minutes from me so would have a look at it on your behalf if you are interested.

Guess it is over budget but has good mileage as well as a reasonable price looking at the market - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202108096018066?include-delivery-option=on&make=BMW&model=Z4&advertising-location=at_cars&sort=relevance&aggregatedTrim=30i&onesearchad=New&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=Used&price-from=7500&postcode=np45xf&radius=1500&page=1 p

Looks nice enough Sean, but I’d say both back lights are f**ked??? Looks like there’s wee green colonies living in there

Maybe - but it would have to pass an MOT anyway I would assume and the guy does not do his own MOT's

Thanks for your comments, I know something will appear and I’m in no rush, the longer my search the more I learn too.

Sadly though my Volvo has decided tonight to throw up an issue on the way home from work, it goes to the garage next week, typical but another reason to have 2 cars in case one throws a paddy.

Quite nice but I must say I saw yesterday for the first time in person an M-Sport in black in a supermarket car park, never seen any colour M-Sport before, really loved it and seeing cars in person makes a huge difference, I’ve only seen the SE in different colours but this caught my attention.

Then you have to wait for a black Msport with toys to ensure you are a happy zedder

Or start leaving notes under the wipers of the ones you see parked up that you like

So the search continues!

Even if it means waiting it's worth holding out if there are specific colours or features you want, rather than just buying one that's "near enough".

I am sure that could work, someone may just be thinking about it and the prompt is there :D

Very true, the M-Sport with or even without toys would be wonderful. Good stereo though is a must now.
