New Z4 owner

Hi and welcome. Lucky Mrs Samz!

Hope that you continue to find the Forum of use. And don't forget the pics with the new wheels on!

Enjoy :driving:

Thanks RickRob, forum is packed full of information! I had to get her something after my purchase last year
I bought myself a 645ci and iv only let her drive it once since :driving: . So now she has her own vert to enjoy! Although im sure il be finding excuses to take her car for a drive aswell. Its a little beauty the Z4. My sister used to have a Z3 which i used to drive quite often, but she sold it this summer, tried to get the Mrs to take the Z3 but she was insistent on a 4. The Z4 feels much more sporty than the 6 which is a big heavy cruiser but goes like stink when you press the loud peddal to the floor!

Well im off in an hour to go and pick up the Z! Its always exciting going to pick up a car, even though its for the Mrs its still no exception. If the nice weather keeps up tomorrow il be giving it a full detail and taking some snaps before and after to share with you guys.

Nice 1 Sam ,
Z should look well on those new shoes , when you do dip into the photobucket slip a pic of the 6er up while you're at it :driving: that V8 is a masterpiece of torque & burble

Here is a few pics of the 6 and a couple with the z3 also

And 1 more with the new exhaust on the 6 series to unleash more of that v8 sound, cant really see much apart from the tips but its a full cat back stainless steel system with magnaflow backboxes

1 of the 1 series back when she was a young one (now on 193k after 7.5 years of ownership, bought it with only 36k on the clock)

Thanks Marlon :) unfortunately the z3 was sold this summer though (was my sisters) so the z4 will fill that gap in our family of bmw's

So a bit a of a ropey start to my Z4 ownership. Picked the car up and drove perfectly the way back....... Then the engine light came on 5 miles from home. Car still drive fine but it hasnt gone off even this morning. The guy had an oil change done but was also low on oil on the way home. Topped that up but still no joy with the engine light. Called up the trader and he agreed to pick the car up on monday and take the car back to get it checked out. Mighty decent of him to do that i thought. Now also the alarm wont stop going off also! There doesnt seem to be any oil leaks as where the car was parked its bone dry underneath. Any common issues you guys know about to do with engine light or alarm issues?

Need to plug a decoder into the diagnostic port to find out the reason for the warning light, could simply need reseting - the garage will read the codes and hopefully it will be something minor.

Yea im hoping its something simple. Maybe a dodgy sensor. Alarm seems to have stopped going off after opening and closing all doors/bonnet/boot thanks god!
Just a bit of a crap start to the ownership:( hopefully when its back and iv had a chance to put some proper miles on it this will all be a distant memory.

On the plus side the new mats and stubby aerial look good on the car. Cant wait to get the rest done. Seems the new bonnet badge i got from BMW was the wrong size, looks way too big for the Z but perfect for the 1 and 6 series.

The front bonnet badge is smaller - 70mm I think, others on the forum have been caught out by this. I'm sure the Zed will be sorted, but its is annoying when you have a few niggles to sort out before you can truly enjoy it.

Ah thanks. Il be getting another badge then lol.
I spoke too soon about the alarm. Still going off so had to lock the doors with the key. Will let the dealer know about that aswell when he comes to pick up the car tomorrow.

Have you tried disconnecting the alarm sensor under bonnet ?

Is that the bonnet push switch near the top?

Yep ,just disconnects , known issues with false alarms from that .
If the car has also been stood a long time before you bought it id also give it a decent trickle charge as low charge can often play games with electronics ( you should know that if you own a 6er :P )

The EML might be due to the air intake boot having a crack in the smaller linking pipe- common problem on z3, 3 series and z4. Cheap and easy fix http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=70223
Love the 6 and 1!

Ha! Did it and no more false alarms! Thanks Mr Wilks! I Should have thought of that. Had the same issue on the 1er a couple of years ago. Il mention the bonnet switch to the dealer and see if he will replace it. Its not an expensive part so not too fussed. The 6er when i bought it, the trader was using it on a daily basis so never had any problems with that plus i find any excuse to get out in it lol :driving: . I guess the engine light may be due to a low battery, think its probably best to let him take it away and get it sorted before i start faffing around with it. The oil level has been good since it topped it up and no evidence of leaks so thats good news!

Hi Paddy. EML light hasnt come on :( just the engine light. I had a look around the air intake and pipes coming out the air box and there doesnt seem to be any hoses which have cracks or splits in them. Thanks for the comments on the 1 and 6 :)

So my coding/diagnostics cable arrived today (picked up from the sorting office) got the z4 on there and found the engine light could be related to a faulty o2 sensor. Should be a quick fix for the dealers to sort out, shame the car will be 90 miles away so may only be able to pick it up next weekend :( myself and Mrs Sam are a bit disappointed. She still drives well, took her out for a little run today.

On a side note i coded a few cool things on my 1 series: digital speedo, digital speed display for 3 seconds after setting cruise control, lock doors after reaching 10mph, unlock all doors on removing key, open drivers door on first unlock with all doors on second unlock and being able to close windows with key removed and doors open. Some nice little touches. Will connect it upto the 6 series later this week and see what i can do! 8)
