If anyone speaks German http://www.zroadster.com/forum/bmw_z4_roadster/52810-bilder_meinen_urlaub_man_noch_so_sieht.html

Looking from google translate, one of these cars had the 335i engine plus the DCT 7 speed paddle shift transmission :)

That sounds like a good combination :D

cant really get a great impression of the bodywork and interior in those shots - very heavily disguised :(

I LIKE THE IDEA OF THE PADDLE SHIFTING

makes for fun :driving:

Looks noticibly larger than the E85. With the metal roof and all the new electronic gadgets, that car's sure going to weigh a lot more than the current Z4.

Seems to be the way of the world these days... manufacturers will claim that's what we all want - the gadgets i mean, unfortunate side effect is weight.

Still some manufacturers can manage to reduce the weight of new models (Mazda and their new 2 for instance) ... few and far between though.

Be interesting, I've posted on the German board (via Google translate  ) to ask how much bigger they thought it might be under all the camouflage, so we'll see if there's any response. I think it does look a wee bit bigger, but probably the body camouflage is deceiving too.

OK it seems that the car is a bit bigger in all directions. Reading through the posts there, the roof seems to be plastic or some sort of composite, maybe like the new MX-5, can't really get to the bottom of it all? Seems like there isn't much boot space when it's folded down either, like some people said on here already.

LOL, I know it's part of the camo and not the car underneith, but I like the camo rear lights, looks like the re-introduced the french fry in a more agressive manner :D

it looks huge compared to the current car! Will hold judgement until all the guise comes off but for now I cnt see me trading my z in for that!

The big news is that we are seeing these pictures. I have at least one foot firmly in the camp that says that we don't see BMW new model spy photos unless BMW wants us to see them. That many photos with that many cars is not a function of some lucky intrepid photographer. See how they are letting us look at the rear trunk open with the accompanying rear fender lines for the folding tin top? It just may be that, indeed, an announcement will come by November. Next will be an unclad spy photo then a blurb or two about performance details or dimensions or curb weight.

It does not look like MB SL competition, though. The additional length and width is within reason. Afterall, they are not going back to Z3 dimensions, trying to steal sales from the Miata crowd.

If all they do is fluff the car out a bit, add a hardtop and add on iDrive, it can't cost all that much more.

Can it?

All seems true enough to me

Looking more and more like a november launch.

This October’s Paris Motor Show is expected to be very busy for BMW as the carmaker is reported to be preparing no less than four different reveals for the upcoming show. The lineup is set to include the world debuts for the 2009 facelifted 3-series range and the recently revealed 7-series saloon, as well as concept versions of a hybrid 7-series and a brand new X1 compact crossover. The debuts don’t end there, however, as the following month is expected to see the reveal of the next-generation BMW Z4 coupe and convertible at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Don't like the french fry

anyone notice the 3 series touring in the background, that thing looks hot!
Mmm always liked it, wheels make it look especially nice too :)

August Roundel, p. 30, has a spy shot of the new Z4 in the psychodelic black and white swirl print. Caption says, ...The series production version will bow at next year's Frankfurt extravaganza..."

Back to question number one: if Z4 production at Spartenburg is shut down -forever as production moves to Regensburg - will BMW not have a 2009 Z4 on the lots next spring and summer?

Plenty of info on this thread (44 pages!) but to save you reading it all, this is the main info, most previously posted...

Debut - who knows - LA Nov 08 / Detroit Jan 09 / Geneva Mar 09 / ???
Folding hard top only
Maybe, depending on demand, a soft top, but not initially
3.0 with 265/272bhp
2.0 twin turbo diesel from 123d with 204bhp :o :o
Other engines - probably not less than 2.5 allowing for a Z2 to follow
7 speed DCT
"Ozone Silver" for launch car colour, along with a nice white 8)

And it looks like a cross between the red and grey cars below, which IMHO can only be a good thing, as I think they both look great :)

Me too, something about it that looks right.

Bit more speculation

BMW is planning to reveal a concept version for its next-generation Z4 at the Los Angeles Auto Show this November, but the current generation of the car is still in dealerships across the country. The final example of the more than 9,300 cars to roll off the assembly line at BMW’s Spartanburg plant did so last Thursday, marking the end of U.S. production of the car’s current life-cycle.

Production of the upcoming Z4 is expected to return to Germany, and will begin in time for the car to hit the streets in 2009 as a 2010 model. The Spartanburg plant won’t go idle, however, as it’s expected to pick up with production of the next-generation X3 and the X6, which are stronger sellers in the U.S.

Bobby Hitt, a BMW manufacturing spokesman, told local news source GreenvilleOnline, “It’s been a great car for the plant, [but] in the life of a plant, new models are what drives the energy.”

“It’s exciting to build cars with a strong order bank, that people want,” Hitt said.

The new production at the plant is driving a $750 million expansion, adding a 1.2 million square-foot assembly site and upgrading the paint shop. Already construction of the expanded facilities are underway, with full-scale production expected to begin in 2009.

The next-generation Z4 roadster and coupe are expected to grow in size and performance, with the top-end M Roadster to get as much as 350hp (261kW) from a twin-turbo inline six-cylinder powerplant. Entry level cars will start with just four cylinders in Europe, but all U.S. models are expected to be six-cylinder cars.
