New Tyres Fitted-Slightly Confused

I noticed on a pic that ell-p posted some lettering on the outside of the wheel near the bolts, so I looked at a colleagues E46, but on both the fronts and rears it says "13" which is no use. :(

No idea why, but some say '8' and others '13' lightly cast into the face

havent had time to take the wheel off or anything this morning however i kerbed one of my wheels on rear drivers side and this wheel has been put back on the rear passenger side. does it matter that they have put the wheel back on the other side? also surely if this kerbed wheel is still on the rear of the car then they must have the right wheels on front and back? :?

For sure - if you recognise a known rear to be on the rear then at least 2 wheel and tyre combos are in the correct place

Makes no odds which side a rim is fitted as they are not directional, tyres such as Falkens are.

No need to remove the rims if you want a quick check. Just push a tape through the spokes and find the location of the 2 that are 1/2" wider.

thanks jeeper, if i know one is in the right place and the gaps on the rears are minimal and the same the fronts must be correct.

im starting to think maybe im being silly, when you look inside your wheel when on the car can you see the inside wall of the hub or just the top of it? this would help me clear up alot of confusion.

One correct rear means one front must also be correct, but 2 others could be switched front/rear

If the 2 on the rear look and measure the same then you can deduce that the 2 are correct on the front.

At the end of the day if you find all the rims in the correct place and all seated and torqued correctly, then I'm afraid you're in need of counselling

Ok... I took some photos of mine (on my phone on the way out this morning!) - I hope they help! Before anyone says... I know my car needs a wash

Anyway here you go:

bit hard to see with all the dirt though :o

:D Lets hope i dont. So basically i can get a tape measure and measure one side of the alloy to the back of it, do this on all four and as long as i have the wider ones on the back and the narrower ones on the front i should shut up :driving:

Could you tell me though whether you can see the inside wall of the hubs on the front wheels?

Yes - hook a tape over the inner lip and measure to the outer lip. Any convenient point to point will do. If the wider are on the rear book that doctor's appt.

You have gannet's photos to compare to

I'm off line now until evening due to real work, but get a nice cross country blast :driving:

 gannet don't take any notice of srhutch i appreciate your help.

I have taken jeepers advice and measured the wheels the each side is them same and the rears are wider

Where i park for work i looked at the jag xkr next to my and the wheels were exactly like mine. Think i was worrying over nothing.

I didn't take any notice of srhutch... I knew they were pretty bad  car is long overdue a wash and some TLC.

Glad to hear everything is the right size front to back etc

Still liking the Michelins?

Good to have more than just me singing their praises on here :D

i have to say changing the tyres is the best thing i could have ever done its just unbelievable the difference. The michelins are chunky, make the car have a nicer firmer feeling to the steering. Goes over potholes a dream now, barely feel anything bumps etc in the road, practically zero road noise but the best thing is NO TRAMMLINING. The Bridgestones to be honest made me car a misery to drive, i was always gripping the steering wheel so hard and gritting my teeth to any bump in the road its no way to enjoy your Zed. It looks like i have joined Gannet in being Michelin PS2's biggest fans. Nothing like smooth fun driving, its better round corners too I noticed more grip and no twitchyness. Totally different car.Love it :driving:

Kinda wishing I just got them for £680 from Costco in a way.

Sourcing my pump/foam, FK452's, and now taking them to the fitters for fitting it's nearing £470, and just a load more hassle :)

Anyway, £200 saved for other goodies :)

I'm mainly interested in tyre life... if they do a few more miles then they pay for themselves right out. Certainly should be the default choice now really, considering they cost only a little bit more than the old tech Bridgestones but so much better overall!

Apparently the tread life on the Michelins is far superior to the Bridgestones. Mine lasted 17,000 miles.

Michelins always last forever. They are as hard as nails. My Michelin Diamaris last 40,000 per set on the X5 and that's 2 tons of performance SUV and I tow a lot with it too..
Downside to durability to some extent is less grip

Cant say I noticed less grip i would say mines is loads more grippier especially around corners and cuts the rear end coming out feeling.

depend an various factors as discussed many times on here, but my rear bridgestones sre coming off on Tuesday bu have done 20k and the fron are also coming off have 5mm left.

4 x Falken 452's going on @ £420 fitted, not the cheapest price but getting them fitted where I want costs a bit more.
