New Tyres Fitted-Slightly Confused

I never have been able to work out the pressures on the doors. What do you put in psi terms front and back?

Basically where before the wheel fitted flush with the car there is now a gap like its been spaced or something?

Have you got close up pics of yours by any chance?

1 bar = 14 psi - so a quick bit of arithmetic and you're sorted.

32psi/35psi then, maybe...

It's around that anyway, apparently!?

I guess you could run 2psi lower at the back, but there is no pressure variance given for running with 0 luggage load and then a full luggage load upto the rated gross vehicle weight.

Ie, for normal driving around 32/34 is probably fine, but if your doing a long fast motorway journey with luggage I'd go 33/36!?

Dave

The sticker shows 2.1 front and 2.4 rear (bar) on mine. All air compressors I've seen at garages allow you to switch between bar and PSI.

Only thing is I think the rated pressures are cold pressures, so best to set the pressures before a long drive anywhere.

Also I noticed on the rear tyres on the back sit deeper into the tyre why is this?

Looks like they mixed all your wheels and trye round, you should have 8" rims on the fron with 225/40 R18 and 8.5" on the rear with 255/35 R18

Exactly my line of thinking as per earlier post of putting up info on exactly what is fitted. Either mixed up the front to rears or the tyres to rim combinations, which is easy enough to do.

33 psi front
36 psi rear

afaik for all 3.0i/Si on 18's...

Dave

That's what mine has.

I agree with the others, make sure they put the correct wheels on the correct corners!

If the tyres are marked for rotational direction be worth checking that is right as well as it sounds like they have really messed up.

For sure.

When you consider 2 different rim sizes that unless you read the casting or measure them it's hard to see, 2 different tyre sizes and some tyres being unidirectional then you have a lot of possibilities of a screw up. Added to that refurbed wheels like 108's are not unknown to have the wrong 'stars' fitted to their respective wheels :headbang:

Yes that wont happen to you again will it :poke:

Good job you mentioned that, as I thought the stars were generic and the outers the different bit. I guess you can tell by measuring the hub depth from the back of the spokes to the hub seat!?
Or is the dish of the face of them actually different too? (looks the same)

Not sure if they are the same but they have different sizes on the casting of 8 and 8.5, so if wrongly assembled any tyre fitter from then on will likley get the wheels mixed. The star would of course be one place to build in any offset changes as of course just as easily the outer part of the wheel.

Tonight I checked my tyres all seem to be on the right way and are the same sizes as the Bridgestones i had before hopefully thats ok but still have this problem of slight space between the wheel and the hub. the inside of the wheel used to sit flush with the car, doesnt look like a spacer or anything weird looking. from what i can see the inside of the wheel has some overhangs which are now resting against the hub. its only a small distance but its bothering me as its wasnt like it before i changed tyres. hopefully this all makes sense and i can get some advice on this i have attached a pic for you all.

Do the Bridgestone RFTs have a rim protector, as that's what could be making these look 'thinner' - assuming that 225 tyre is on a front wheel, which in itself is on the front of the car :D

Given the position of the reflector... thats a front tyre on the front

Ive just checked the tyre pressure sticker in my car and it is 2.3bar front, 2.5bar rear which translates as 33.35874 PSI front, 36.2595 PSI rear according to this website so I was wrong earlier to say 36 seemed a bit high

I see nothing wrong in the picture you show :? maybe an arrow where you suspect the problem is would help?

Didn't take that into account as I don't have them on my car, so assumed they were an add-on and could have been fitted anywhere
