Thats what I want, but it doesnt work that way. Not sure if something is broken or what. I seem to have quite a few STRANGE gremlins in my car. At least the engine purrs nicely...ronk said:My screen colour inverts

BadgerDog said:[ref]Jollyjoiner[/ref], my question is how well is the screen visible in the bright sun with the top down? My previous car was an NC Miata. I fitted a Pioneer Android Auto head unit to it and LOVED all the features it added (in fairness it had no screen at all before this so it was a huge leap for me). However, the slightest sun on that screen rendered it unreadable! The OEM screen on our Zeds is INCREDIBLE in this regard (I think its color eInk?) and I dont want to give that up, but otherwise would love to have google maps on the screen, etc.
Could you put a satin/matt screensaver over the screen to combat the glare?AnubisZed said:BadgerDog said:[ref]Jollyjoiner[/ref], my question is how well is the screen visible in the bright sun with the top down? I've had bothThe biggest problem with the Android screen was if the sun was out, roof down and you have a passenger, as anything they are wearing is reflected in the screen. Not too bad but noticable, but as I drive mine on my own most of the time this wasn't really a problem. Also if you have the cream/white seats it could be a bit of a problem.
As for wanting Google maps on an original iDrive screen then go with an MMI box that'll give you Apple CarPlay/Android Auto (depending on your phone) then you'll have live access to the apps on your phone......

Interesting, I will give that a look. Thank you. Is this one thats going to work / not work depending on which version we have? Or is is more of a "Any E89 can run this" type thing? I'll do my own research ist just easy to miss that sort of subtly... one thing I have learned is that it seems like theres a million different combinations of equip on these cars.AnubisZed said:BadgerDog said:[ref]Jollyjoiner[/ref], my question is how well is the screen visible in the bright sun with the top down? BadgerDog said:For example, every picture Ive ever seen with comparisons to CIC vs NBT etc tells me I have CIC (it looks the same), however THEIR site suggests my 2016 Z4 should have NBT... guess I could pull the head unit and look at the LVDS connectors, but what a drag to have to do that.
If you look at the graphic (when you scroll down) at https://motivesupplies.nl/product/motivesupplies-mmi-for-bmw/ it leads me to believe it is at least POSSIBLE that while it still had the CIC system the post facelift model had the 6 pin NBT LVDS connector. It at least casts enough doubt I think I have to pull the head unit before I'd consider buying the box... Of course thats the only place I can find anything suggesting such a thing. But it would ALSO fit with the info on the first MMI box's website (that Anubis posted, claiming my car needs the NBT version).Silverstar said:BadgerDog said:For example, every picture Ive ever seen with comparisons to CIC vs NBT etc tells me I have CIC (it looks the same), however THEIR site suggests my 2016 Z4 should have NBT... guess I could pull the head unit and look at the LVDS connectors, but what a drag to have to do that.
NBT never came on the E89 Z4 no matter what year the car is. If it did it would possible to upgrade the earlier cars to NBT but from my research before I went the MMI route is that this isn't possible.
You're in the UK. How many sunny days are you expecting to get?Jollyjoiner said:I've only been out in mine once with roof down with the new screen and I was alone and all I can say the screen looked fine to me but then it wasn't a bright sunny day.

mcbutler said:Total in GBP is £617 delivered for single unit or £492.28 if we can get 5 buyers....
However with the brexit bollox it would be prudent to expect a nice fat customs charge as well!!!!

Check here: https://www.bimmer-tech.net/blog/item/54-bmw-cic-nbt-nbtevo
You will see the E89 Z4 is only listed under CIC and not under NBT.
I'm thinking maybe two or three so I'm sure I'll get out in one of themYDB said:You're in the UK. I have been buying from China for resale etc for over ten years, never had any problems with duty at all until this year.......Silverstar said:mcbutler said:Total in GBP is £617 delivered for single unit or £492.28 if we can get 5 buyers....

Looks like that supplier is in Shenzhen, China so you can expect custom costs i.e. duty VAT and clearance charges no matter what the Brexit situation. Account around £150 to 200 on top.

Oh Im not saying I think its actually NBT... but it is possible it could have the newer connector. An iterative change on CIC. I just want to verify before buying anything thats all.Silverstar said:You will see the E89 Z4 is only listed under CIC and not under NBT.
