Machine monkey said:I like it on the whole. But there is something wrong with the proportions around the wheels and arches. Maybe it needs bigger wheels better off sets and lowering a bit. Looks a bit like a mini Jag f type to me?????

Hopefully they put bigger HP under the bonnet than previous models![]()

you mean the way the Mk2 made the 1.9 Z3 look, and I'm serious the Z3 in lower engine sizes used to get a hard time of reviewers in comparison.

The 1.8 MX5 weighed in at 1065Kg with 152bhp, the Z3 1.9 weighed more with less power 1200 kg with only 138bhp and had inferior handling. Not a tricky choice for the relative costs but I'd agree the Z3 felt more up-market even if it broke down a lot more (statistically). The new MX5 looks like more of the same dynamically but promising improved quality of materials, as I say watch out FWD Z2 if it ever comes.

- you' d never want to do that in an MX-5- the advantage of the Z3 over the MX-5 came in the straight six cars . And as for Z3s being less prone to rust than MX-5s - the sills on Z3s are hardly the cars strong point. The Z4 initially went up market from the Z3 ( no engine smaller than 2.5 at first) as it was finding difficult to build a BMW that competed on price with the MX-5.ZermattV said:TitanTim said:Tim.
quite right i'd forgotten how good Z3s are as winter hacks

I'm sure which ever you had gone for it would still been in good nick .

lol I'm very defensive of the Z3 as you need to own one long term to truly appreciate them. My 1.9 is 118bhp so even slower  When I bought the Z3 in 2008 I looked and tried a fair few MX5s and to me there was just no comparison and probably by now would be ready for breakers yard, My Z3 hasn't put a foot wrong, is completely rust free and still sweet as a nut and the build completely outshines the Mazda. I found the MX5s a little too cheap feeling with a buzzy engine. The latest one to me looks vastly improved however the interior still looks too down market.
