The articulated screen on the G12 allows you to take some very discrete photos. Put the camera on a table or something similar pointing at your subject (but away from you) and have the screen facing you. You can even use a remote shutter release if you want to be especially covert.tomscott said:

But then you're buying into another lens system when you don't need to. If you've already invested in EOS EF lenses, then the Canon makes most sense. The slightly higher purchase cost is more than covered in savings on new lenses

I think the EOS M will be on my target list for early next year once the pricing has stabilized after launch. In the meantime I've purchased a Canon S100 as a replacement for the broken PowerShot G9, as it has all the features we need as a light, ultra compact point and shoot camera for when we don't want to carry the DSLR around.
I picked the S100 up from ebay for just over £250 with next day special delivery, very impressed so far with the quality and ease of use. We'll be taking it to Carfest on Saturday, hopefully the weather will hold out to be able to take some good pictures.

Well im moving full frame so once that pill is swallowed.. but yes I will haha! For the consumer the DSLR is dead. Only reason to get a DSLR now is for the ergonomics which for you hard core photographers using cameras every day or professionally will appreciate, but for an occasion or as a consumer camera they cannot be beaten. Good advice Tom. It's always best advised to wait for both of those reasons, price drop and new niggles.
I've got a Canon 7D but it such a hefty piece of kit to take anywhere which is why I always use my little Samsung but this new one will be just the job I think.

The 7D is a great camera! Would have bought one myself if it wasnt ready for a refresh but without one in sight, dont like the diea of buying older tech if something is on the horizon. Although it still rules the high end crop cameras by far. The urge of full frame and amazing DOF you get with it is too much tho lol. Ye a group by would be great! Unfortunately no Canon contacts but sure a shop would do us a discount if we took a few off their hands!

Thats one hell of an upgrade from a 350d! lol I had one too but needed something better pretty quickly so bought a 40D which was like a 7D back in the day, but is ready for the naker yard. Its really an awesome bit of kit tho! That AF system is great but does take a bit of getting used too! I shot the BTCC with a 7D and a 5D MKII awesome combo, really enjoyed using it the burst rate is awesome. But ye it is overkill for most everyday situ's the little cams are great to carry around! Which is why I want one too.
