My Z4M CSL - Stage 3 Mods

Flat shift mod is where you can change gear (in any gear) without taking your foot off the gas. You just keep you foot planted even when changing gear.
When I was having my car live-mapped another guy had his M5 e39 done and he said it was great. You know getting these cars off the line can be abit tricky, but with this combination you just have to worry about getting the gear change right. The map will feather the gas to get the maximum performance just like the DSG on the M3. To get low 4s was very difficult to get the power down, also had to extend the rev limit to get to true 60 in second (recorded on Racelogic) because of the 3.91 diff mod (Fab mod!!!).
This mod will make the times more consistent.... well that's the plan.

I have the 'Quick Shift' kit installed which makes the change crisper, but the mod seems to work.

Does anyone know the weight of the Z4M Seats (Heated) as I've heard conflicting stories that they weight 70kg each and if you change them with Recaro's you can save 100kg? Has anyone done this conversion know the weight and savings ???? Thanks.

That's 11 stone! I think they weigh around 70 pounds - 31kgs each, given how easy it is to lift them that sounds about right. You can add heating pads to the Recaro's if you want - get the carbon fibre pads which should work better than the OEM ones.
If you get the temp sending right you may even be able to wire them into the original switching - something I was looking into a little while back.

Yes can go for the Racelogic, but CA-AUTO use a guy (Buy the way is an amazing mapper - transformed my car from the previous tune CA-AUTO/AL-TUNING) that can do that with the standard ECU. Seen it done on an older ECU on M5 e39.

The stock seats weight approx 62KG combined. Recaros are around 8KG each with the sidemounts plus you'll need to add a few kg for the mounts to fix them to the floor. Quite a worthwhile diet over the original seats plus you won't be flying around the place in the recaros

I weighed the Z3M heated electric seats in my old car and they were 29kg each. So a useful 40kg could be shed in switching to Recaros, maybe slightly less if you're going for leather. Which recaro's are you looking at? Pole positions?
Just spashed out on some AC-Schnitzer rear wings for a Z4, and looking at getting a Z4 Hardtop. Also have the finial live map (incl Launch control & flat shift) to be done sometime in Jan when CA-AUTO's mapper pops back into the UK. So I'll probably be calling it a day on the my Z4 tuning, LOL, as I'm looking at getting a M3 e92 sometime next year, so have to watch the pennies 
Also I think my car will be on the BMW owners club stand at this coming AUTOSPORT / PistonHeads Motor show at the NEC (birmingham) in January. Its been a great tuning experience which has ended up with a great handling, much quicker and lovely looking car. Yes the NA route is very expensive but you just can't beat the CSL induction sound and razor sharp throttle response of a NA engine. I have to say that CA-AUTO done a fantastic job for me.
Also I would like to say a big 'Merry Christmas' to all on the Z4-Forum

Hey Z4M_CSL thanks for sharing all this with us - i for one have followed the evolution of your car with close interest With reference to recarro seats, I replaced my OEM ones a few years ago and from memory lost a net 60-70KG, a mod worth doing IMO.

Have you had any issues with getting the Z's ecu to work with the CSL airfilter as i've heard a few issues where some have made attempts to do this conversion..

The first tune had a problem between 3-4K, but with the CA-AUTO chap who did the previous live map it was very good. He even made the airbox induction noise sound louder, lol.
Also I remember the guy from BMW Car magazine saying when he drove my car it was a very good map.
