A lot of speak and building u the the engine, whichn is great considering the massive BHP results achieved. :o

However... anyone running a standalone/ DME/ Alpha N with a CSL airbox? would love to hear from you. :)

Also, has anyone changed the standard S54 to CSL specs on their CSL?

a friend of mine has converted to complete CSL engine spec including the Alpha n management that is used......
the supercharger uses alpha n management also fyi :-)

the noise this thing makes when he guns it is GLORIOUS, one of the best engine sounds ever??? i do always get a tingle in my spine as he accelerates next to me.

 I know! a CSL at full chat is just bonner inducing  . Its hard to compare the 2 but the engine seems much crisper on the CSL with a fuller torque curve, overall. Just an impression, I have not seen one on paper.

Could you get us some pics of your mate's set up please. I'm wondering 1. Where to buy a CSL airbox and parts (OEM or not OEM?)

How to adapt it to the Z4.

Other internals that need changing.

Cheers!

the csl has schrick cams as well, thats about it and the airbox..... he found a smashed up one at a salvage yard and purchased the airbox, the actual hardware bolts straight up... if you can find the bits at a reasonable cost, then the alpha n management costs quite abit...... he spent 3k on the airbox and tune... i will get some pics for you, looks awesome, very oem

Right. Thats the blabla I googled: Does not seem easy to coax 355 ponnies from this puppy! To be fair 106 Bhp/L is already lot for an NA engine:

lacks a conventional mass airflow meter. Instead, the air draw is determined directly by the DME for quicker calculations. There is also a more efficient air intake system made largely of GFP and routed through larger manifolds to the circular opening in the front airdam. Further changes include modified camshafts and exhaust valves, plus a lightweight exhaust system constructed of thinner steel. The CSL-spec engine is rated at 360 hp (DIN) at 7,900 rpm and 273 lb-ft of torque at 4,300 rpm.

The M Division has coaxed 355bhp from the 3.2-litre straight-six (up from 339bhp), produced at a screaming 7900rpm, thanks to a larger carbonfibre induction system, hotter cams, modified exhaust valves and a freer-flowing exhaust manifold. It's quite a feat and means the superb 'six' generates an incredible 111bhp per litre.

Don't believe everything the internet says...

Our cars already have ECU capable of running Alpha-N. If you don't belive me - unplug your MAF - the car would still run. The only issue is that there are not many people who can map the ECU, which is unique and closer to the S85.

The Z4MC and the CSL share the same exhaust headers. The only big difference is the cams and the airbox...

Flatout's Z4MC absolutely destroyed a CSL, which had supersprint x-over, exhaust and a DMS remap. And I mean it absolutely destroyed it... Like 3 car lengths from 70 to 150...

he's right ya know ;-)

the e85/86 ecu is VERY complicated and takes some serious know-how to tune it properly..... with someone that can...the thinngs you can do are awesome.....

Yes, I've also been told that the ECU in the Z4M is much more advanced than the one in the e46 M3. Will ask my tuner when he live maps my car for the new Stage 3 Cylinder head and new Stage 2 Cams I’ve had fitted what he thinks about the ECU.

Also here are some pictures of my car from the recent BMW Car Magazine article review.

What date is the BMW mag, I would like to take a good look at it, not many go the NA root to tune the S54 so it makes it interesting.

Z4CSL- is it still CA Auto tuning your car?

Hi, yes not many go NA, as you can get more for your money supercharging, but my tuning journey was always about getting that carbon air box noise, razor sharp handling and a good power increase. I know the editor at BMWCar mag was blown away with the induction noise.
He quoted “At full throttle the induction noise is something else, an incredible blaring bark that batters you from all directions with the roof down…”

With handling he quoted “It really feels ferocious and the drive out of corners is stupendous. Ah yes, corners – where this car really comes alive. The amount of grip that this Z4 generates is incredible and it seems like no matter how hard you push, it refuses to come unstuck … there no body roll whatsoever and the G-force it puts through your body is incredible…”. It was a great article and good read, better that the PerformanceBMW article but to their defence had a lot more stuff done to the car since then.
I know I’ve shocked a few GT3 drivers on my travels, with a few thumbs up from our fellow Porsche drivers, all done in a good natured way. The 3.91 diff change done a Simpsons makes the car feel like a diesel in how it pulls lol.

I have CA-Automotive getting the parts and managing the work, Simpsons doing all the mechanical work such as the Stage 3 head change (head came from Europe with a 5 angle valve, larger incol inlet vales) and schrick stage 2 cams and followers. CA will be selling the Stage 1 cams ‘CSL Spec’ I purchased just under a year ago. The car will need to be mapped again by CA’s own tuner, will get them to video the car for the sound. But here’s someone’s video of my car at the BMW Gaydon 2011 show.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRJyt10M4d0

This will make you laugh, Last time I was getting the car live mapped at Brunty I said to Roy “god what’s that, that car sounds great”, he turned around and said the same time this red Z4M came hurtling ‘Induction roar blaring’ towards me, it’s yours. The tuner made the induction noise even louder, lol.

I can finally say that I reached the end of tuning this car, it may not be the faster in a straight line against a supercharged Z4M but I think I’ve (a bit of credit to CA-Auto lol) have built a true Z4M CSL ‘Convertible Sport Lightweight’, LOL.

shes a beaut!!!!! i love the different approach......... i think your the only one thats gone this far N/A, im the only UK blown one would make an awesome run together...... next time your @ brunters invite me so we can do some runs!!!

Omg I think I spotted your car or very near clone of it in derby a few fridays back, heading towards the city center.

Looks awesome.

I'll watch it when I get home.

Could you give us some specs when its all done:

Drop in weight (kg's is fine)
Quoted Bhp increase
list of mods
Hsed loads of pics :D

When is there a race on with Beedub? :P

hes @ 400 n/a horsepower..... i must feel lovely, ive got another 107hp...... with a massive jump in TQ as well, my power curve rises like a the stock car, power everywhere in the rev range, i know my car will be quicker... the question is by how much??

love what the OPs done though, hes made an All round monster..... OP you really need to sort your brakes now with this setup :-)

Beedub, not too sure when I’ll be at Brunty, as CA plan to live map some other cars, but just need to meet up for a beer and a laugh sometime. Have to agree in a straight line yours will be faster by quite abit with 507bhp. Not sure what you have done on the handling, but have gone to town on mine with the Ground Control and Nitrons, wider track and other bits, so I’ll probably have you on the corners and twisty bits. But must admit would love to give it to the ‘stig’ to drive around the top gear track to see what the cars can do.

Yes agree about the brakes. Have uprated the disks, pads and bits, which is fine for my limited runs on the track, but a big brake kit would be good. However their good enough for me at the moment.

Aquazi, ‘Thanks mate’ yes that was probably me as live in derby and sometimes go into the city centre, do like that A52 …

Well just collected the car from Simpsons today and have to say even though the map needs adjusting to take into account the new Cylinder head, wilder cams, and larger values, it pulls much more at the top end. However it also feels stronger at the lower revs too ???, but the best thing is the induction noise is louder!!!! Fantasic!!!! LOL
Looking forward to when I get the final live map and then see what’s the final BHP is, but one things for sure the Z4M is such a nice looking car.

With your handling ull run rings around me..... Im turning my attention to the suspension this winter and will be going no expense the best of the best..... Will be using the kw competition which are custom units above the track "clubsport range", then turner rear camber arms, front and rear reinforcements (already purchased) bush limiting kits, strut braces already in place, gc arbs...... Most of these bits are on order.... Really looking forward to setting it all up!!!

I think you should do your seats next and drop a load of weight.... Shell feel really spritely after that :-)

Yes the Nitrons I got are the stage 2 version 'NTR Sport+ - NTCBM013S+' The Stage 3 is the full track version. Also got the Ground Control Anti-Roll bars which Simpsons Motorsport swear by. The other thing that improves in-gears acceleration and toque is the 3.91 dif, however I’ve lost on top end but I can get there quicker.

Hoping in the future to get a red M3 e92 and get the BMW front carbon splitters and rear carbon lip, then Ground control & Eibach springs and anti-roll bars. Then you be please to hear get the ESS VT1 535 supercharger... well that’s all my wish list if all things go to plan. However still keep the Z4M CSL as the little sports car you keep in the garage. As the sound 'induction bark' of the NA engine is so sharp

Very impressive what both of you have done to your cars. Can't imagine what it would be like running 500 horses :happyclap: I know you've put up some vids of your car on a sprint circuit which looked great  Good to hear that Simpson have had a hand in both your project,, great guys...

Why not arrange a TD at somewhere like Bedford or Snett, they have a very cheap TD coming up later this month <£90 :driving:

The only people that touch my car are simpson motorsport.... Awesome people!!! Wait till we dial in my new methonal/water injection :-) were talking 40rwhp+ across the rev range :-) we wont be using it as a fuel suppliment but as a charge cooler, in summer it'll be like driving at 3 deg c!!!! Really having fun building this car up and im really please people like the op are around !!!!!! I just wish u were alittle more active on the forums!!!!
