My Z4M CSL - Stage 3 Mods

Beedub, CA_AUTO say they are a direct replacement for the OEM ones. The reason for changing them I did feel there was a bit more roll than I wanted. But as we know the Z4M has divided opinions, Clarkson slated it, but it posted a 1.26 (stock) on the Top Gear Track faster than a CSL, also Richard Hammond loved it.

Me, I think the Z4M is a fab car, really please with it. I do feel with the combination of the Nitrons and the Ground Control anti roll bars has really made a different. We all have a road we like to blast down, the one for me is a bit bumpy but has a good “S” bend and the car now copes much more easier now. Also feels more safer and composed.

There will be an article in BMW mag soon so you will get an independent review to the handling changes, and get some timed runs. Speak to CA_AUTO if you need more information on these items.

Yes looking at the video on youtube it was a wet/damp track, They say 4 seconds for a really wet track but in the dry you right it would go faster. But the CUP tires are probably worth a few secs too. On a wet track CUP's are not very good but on a dry track they are much better. Not sure on a damp track like that they are better than normal tires, dont know. I'm sure a Z4M with cup tires it would be very interesting ???

But the Z4M is a fun car to drive. It does have the M-Factor :-)

A stock z4m, has no chance vs a stock CSL. The CSL weighs less, has better suspension and more power.

Are you still here? You're absolutely full of it.

Why do you say that daz? Z4M_CSL stated that he thinks the CSL was slower and then Kings disagreed and rightly so... :?

He comes across negatively and adds nothing to the party. He's come on here and taken the mick out of 2 posters that add something around here to the point where one was going to leave.

That is all.

I'm aware of a CSLs advantages over a Zed, just from experience I don't think there as good as some around here may think. For a track purpose car they are just as useless on track in standard form imho.

Have lent my lesson on here and other sites. Most people are very friendly and very polite but a few come across a bit blunt. But Hay Ho :D

Planning to have part of the from spoiler vinyl wrapped carbon fibre effect, the bar between the left and right air ducks. Called “CarbonSkin” today and said it would be a simple job and only cost around £45. So don’t mind that, and if I don’t like I have not lost too much. This will form my Stage 3 and half mods, LOL.

Not sure if I asked this but has anyone got opinions about the 3.4 Stroker Kit for the S54 engine? Before you say it yes I agree pound per buck you get more power from a supercharger (also I have nothing against superchargers they are very good). With my car I wanted The CSL induction sound and wanted to keep it NA. Just want people thoughts (positive or negative) on a S54 Stroker. Also I believe the new M3 GTS has a stroker from 4L to 4.4L (Not saying this is the same kit).

Look forward to your thoughts :?

daz05, hairy muff! :D

Kings, say things a little nicer... smilies go a long way! :)

Z4M_CSL, didn't know what a Stroker Kit is until you mentioned it... found this to be a good read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stroker_Kit
So would you need to lower the rev limit?

strokers are GREAT!!!!!

the only thing is if you guna spend that type of cheese you may as well stick with the 3.2 and just build the hell outa it!! ;-)
if i had real balls i would have liked to adapt at horse power freaks m3 turbo kit for the z4m. i do think the 1 M coupe will be the way for tuning, i can see these cars EASILY hitting 450bhp when the single turbo kits arrive.

If by better you mean the same then I agree with you. The biggest difference between the two cars on track is the tyres. A z4m on cups may not have the beating of a CSL but it would always be in its mirrors.

I have two questions:

Has anyone had experience of light weight Flywheels on here? Have read the blur and says that it improves acceleration.

Also about lightning the Z4M roadster. Many parts I have put on my Z4M have reduced the kerb weight but are there any others (E.G. replacement chairs etc...)?

hey there, i bought the UUC LightWeight FlyWheel for my 330i back in 2009. I'm STILL loving the improvement in acceleration and it does climb to 7K rpm quite quickly.
Your clutch pedal will be much lighter due to the single mass LWFW.

Before and leading upto the purchase, no one said anything about noises from the flywheel...

- The infamous LWFW rattle when idle. There's no escaping this even though UUC says the E34 M5 clutch plate has springs and can help reduce the noise. From the engine bay, it will sound like one of the belt tensioners is badly broken.
- Stuck in traffic or Town driving can be a pain. It is a single mass flywheel and hence does not cater for "comfort" or "lazy" driving. You have to be in the right gear all the time for a smooth ride. This is good heel & toe practise.
- Because of the LWFW rattle, your clutch release bearing lifespan will be shorten. I change mine almost once every year, if not sooner.

I'm putting up with all this nonsense because it's worth it. Probably one of my best mods ever done.

P/S : Couple this LWFW mod with the 3.91 diff ratio.

+1, I think the dampers are slightly different but basically the same. The front springs have one less coil or something I'm sure but don't remember 100%.

Hi Kings, I have very limited experience on a track, when the weather gets better if ever I will try get a 1 on 1 training on a track :-) Also what BMW do you have and what mods have you done?

He'll ZM4000, thanks for your info, yes CA-AUTO have mention about the 3.91. But you have put that on my radar again, thank you. It sound like those things really improve acceleration & in gear times. :-) good to here you thoughts thanks :-)
Would be interest to find out about anyone that has actually fitted one to a Z4M.

Hello Kennef, yes I heard about noise issue but didn't know about the wear issue. Thanks. That puts me off that change be honest.

Also gonna change my silver front engine vents for carbon fibre ones to match up the carbon fibre theme.

Regards Brendon

What do you think from experience means in quote above, for clarity yes. The CSL eats its front tyres very very quickly, they need the camber pins removing but thats not a good solution tbh. Brakes are also terrible but then you'll know that.

Have been doing some investigation into the rear diff changes and found a few interesting Videos on youtube:

M3 e46 dif comparison: 3.61 vs 4.10 vs 3.91

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdpsY-OL2JU

Also found e90 vs Z4M with a 3.91 diff and few simple mods: (excuse the music on this one, why they do that I don't know)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVUxbdwIdSw

Have to say after watching the “3.61 vs 4.10 vs 3.91” youtube I have one on order which will form part of my Stage 4 mods.

Also found this article that reviews the BMW Okada Plasma Direct Ignition put. Interesting they say about 5.5bhp increase on these alone on a 330ci. The old saying every penny counts.

Update on the power figures, I have planned two more independent dyno runs, when I get both of them done will post all three independent dyno’s what evey they read, LOL.

Also yes you may have guessed it. I have started sorting out my Stage 4 mods and I can tell you a new rear diff is on order with CA-AUTOMOTIVE. Will keep you posted on this one ...
