My Z4M CSL - Stage 3 Mods

I can't believe the difference in acceleration! :o

Which did you order? 3.91 or 4.10. Only bad thing about 4.10 is that you will need to be in third gear to do 60mph...

Have been doing some investigation into the rear diff changes and found a few interesting Videos on youtube:

M3 e46 dif comparison: 3.61 vs 4.10 vs 3.91

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdpsY-OL2JU

Also found e90 vs Z4M with a 3.91 diff and few simple mods: (excuse the music on this one, why they do that I don't know)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVUxbdwIdSw

Have to say after watching the “3.61 vs 4.10 vs 3.91” youtube I have one on order which will form part of my Stage 4 mods.

Also found this article that reviews the BMW Okada Plasma Direct Ignition put. Interesting they say about 5.5bhp increase on these alone on a 330ci. The old saying every penny counts.

Update on the power figures, I have planned two more independent dyno runs, when I get both of them done will post all three independent dyno’s what evey they read, LOL.

Also yes you may have guessed it. I have started sorting out my Stage 4 mods and I can tell you a new rear diff is on order with CA-AUTOMOTIVE. Will keep you posted on this one ...

Hi mate,

Are you buying the whole diff or just the ring and pinion? Any indication on the price?

I was planning to get the ring and pinion from turner motorsports for my Z4M... http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=E46M3-RP
My mech will have to take the diff apart to install it...

im REALLY not a fan of these diff changes...... i see why your doing it but i think gearing is best left alone, down low you will kick ass but up top you will lose out massively.... how about motorway cruising? to many negatives imo! but each to their own.

Beedub you use a lot more often the down low then the high speed on highway.

A friend of mine has the 3.91 on his z4m and i will copy the exact review he made on another forum just translated of course :)
tomorrow

Here's what he says:(he's name is HerrRossi77 and has a lot of experiences with Z4M and tuning)
" Got the same installed and can only say: SICK!

Vmax Tacho's always another 300 so you have no disadvantages compared to the standard translation.
Clear advantage in terms of elasticity.
100-200 in 4th gear going slightly faster than the production 3g/4g response (please note here speedometer reading).
200kmh with the 3.91 will not be matched.
My value in 4th gear at the speed limit are as Checks Wernau measured 193.7 km / h.

Consumption of course increased minimal, especially at cruising speed because the engine turns higher, resulting as well but a logical consequence.
Moderate elasticity you really believe to have 30ps more!
This results in values that are at eye level with a GT3, ONLY in elasticity of course!"

and here's another thread from Harcy he's from Luxembourg and has it also.

"Can tell my experiences with my ex Z3MQP report that I had reduced from 3.15 to orignal 3.46er.
The difference was grandiose, a difference of day and night. The car ran well, thanks to the shorter translation. more Biting and subjective as if he had 10-15hp more. He had now in every aspect of life much more Bums. In everyday life, one could overtake easaly without even have to downshift. Also on the ring, because he just had a lot more bums, especially the output of the curves, or in different sections where you could certainly make a good couple of seconds, thanks to the diff.
I even made the comparison against an original Translated MQP, where I gave him the 5th of 120km / h to 220km / h put clearly. In the same game in 4th gear ....
The only downside was that he had a 5Gear transmission and it unsuitable for long motorway sections was.
The reason I wanted to rebuild the Zetti 6Gears with 3.91er diff.

I can recommend a shorter diff to everyone, thereby making the car much more fun and is noticeably better. The fun factor on the car increases enormously!

It was a google translation so dont read the mistakes i had not a lot of time to translate ;-)

ok cool... what should have "bums" been exactly?

bums lol didnt see that google didnt translate it.
More bums means that the car is more agressive.
example: when u coming out of a corner
or when u pas by another car

hi their matey, i REALLY wish you were more active within the forum as its GREAT to see someone pushing the boundries but going in a different direction, i Hear youve managed to grab a true 400bhp N/A?? awesome figure, did you get the shrick cams??

i went stage 2 s/c and got 507bhp @ the crank and an astonishing 450 Wheel horspower @ 8psi boost, ive still got that Razor sharp throttle response a centrifugal s/c offers, so overall im Really pleased, how is the car running?? would love to info on the shrick cams, and the raised redline, this thing must sound awesome!!!

some general updates would be great

Hello Beedub. Yes sorry been abit busy with work. Have you seen this month’s BMWCar Magazine article on my car. It’s a good read. On the day the guy from the mag was so impressed with handling and the induction noise. After his drive he did say “Oh my god, it does handle and that noise”, lol.

Oh yes my last and final mods on the car are a Stage 3 head with enlarged values and have decided to go for a stage 2 cams (My existing CSL ones are Stage 1). Should be all complete in a few weeks :-)

Your car ... Wow 500bhp on your car, thats fast  Thats some machine.

Indeed, that was an excellent article; not a bad car either... ;)

A lot of speak and building u the the engine, whichn is great considering the massive BHP results achieved. :o

However... anyone running a standalone/ DME/ Alpha N with a CSL airbox? would love to hear from you. :)

Also, has anyone changed the standard S54 to CSL specs on their CSL?
