My Number Plate has been cloned

It might be appropriate to finish with

Sunt bine enervat, așa plăti până nemernicilor

If it's an illegal plate on the van and they keep crossing the same place can't you inform the old bill?

I am gobsmacked at this thread.

I am really disappointed to hear that its so difficult to resolve a cloned plate.

I also thought that the idea of cloning a plate would be to put it on a similar vehicle. Putting a Z4 plate on a lorry, they must have just picked yours by chance, clearly not because the vehicles look the same. This must be so easy for the authorities to sort out, shocking that they don't.

I would be inclined to reply (same letter) to each fine once explaining the situation and then if they choose to escalate it, let them. You will have done your bit and you can claim the moral high ground.

The issue is very difficult to resolve because it's not a cloned plate, it's a legitimate Romanian registration plate that just happens to match Steve's - it appears that a number of Romanian plates have a format much like the old UK plates, e.g.

Ah right, sorry, I missed that in the thread. How bizarre is that and what are the chances? Yes, I see the difficulty is clearing up the situation now.

Steve, surely it's just easier to give up that private plate & let the DVLA take it back & get a different one for your car?

I know it unfortunate & you shouldn't have to as you've done nothing wrong but I cant see a swift resolution to this, Dartford crossing now, Severn crossing another time, anywhere that's got ANPR & our Romanian friend causes a misdemeanour then you are going to cop it.

Is it really worth the hassle of all of this with your current plate?

After doing a bit of research, it appears that this mix-up could end up being a very common problem as more Romanian vehicles hit the UK

The standard Romanian number plate format is [County Code] [2 or 3 digits] [3 letters]

The only single-letter county code is 'B' which is where Steve's Romanian twin comes from... and this could be an issue for anyone with a B-prefix plate on their car - but there probably aren't a great many of those still on the road so it's likley to be a rare occurrence.

The rest of the Romanian county codes are 2 letters and they nearly all match the current 2 letter prefixes used in the UK. So the majority of the Romanian reg plates that start with [2 letter county code] followed by [51,02,52,03,53,04,54,05,55... etc.] will have a corresponding UK plate....

Hutch, I'll send you a PM with my phone number.

I have connections...
I look after the ANPR on the Severn Crossing and work directly with our Violation team. We use some of the same Contractor Engineers for our Tolling equipment as they do at Dartford and they are usually with us one week and at Dartford the next. If its anything like our place, the boys will hopefully know exactly who to speak at Dartford and will go and have a word for you.

Just thought I would ring Dart Charge themselves to see if I could resolve once and for all. Sometimes speaking to a human pays dividends.

I established the following

There are more charges waiting as they have not paid for other crossings. I have no idea how many as they wont tell me. Bloody Data Protection :headbang:

The £5 I paid for the 2 crossings for the Duxford show have not been allocated to my crossings :headbang:

The penalty charge I disputed has been cancelled although I have received no notification from the enforcement agency (not Dart Charge themselves)

Anyway the lady I spoke to was very helpful and hopefully is dealing with it to ensure any crossing with my plate go through image review.

If this doesn't get resolved after this I will issue one more letter with an invoice and then just sit on any further charge notices and they can take me to court.

Why the hell don't they just wait for johnny toss pot to come along in his truck, stop and impound the bloody thing, he's not paying for the crossing so impound the vehicle...no pay, we destroy

Got you PM thanks number5

So in total I got 3 this week, making 4 in total.

I'm not giving my plate up, it was a present from the missus and she wouldn't be impressed. If putting it on retention helped I would do that, but it only makes matters worse.

I posted on the Dart Charge Facebook page and ness aged them. Got a response and supposedly now any existing PCN's have been ceased and my plate will go through image review if it comes up again. So theoretically all sorted.

I will be sending the three PCN's off though with my invoice for £75 , also advising I will not respond anymore.

It should not be this hard :headbang:

Whoops!

What happened to 'my plate will go through image review if it comes up again' then? If I buy a brewery, I don't think I'll be commissioning them to organise the annual staff party...

OMG - I can't imagine your frustration with this :o

maybe the plate review thing only last a couple of months?!

At this rate it would be easier to get the original plate for your car back.... And change your name by deedpoll to match it.

I can hand my plate back, but if i put on retention I'm no better off.

I'm going to pm number5, but otherwise I'm going to ignore them.

We were only talking a a about this earlier in the week as we had the Dartford Engineers at our place,
However, I thought it was all resolved as the thread had gone quiet !!

I'll PM you my phone number.
