Montego Blue v's Ruby Black

Hi, my Z4 search continues - looking at a Montego Blue and a Ruby Black Roadster at the weekend.
Had a search on here, and mixed views on the benefits of each - guess purely down to personal taste.
But welcome any current owner views to help me!
thanks all.
BTW - great forum - I just found the new owners section - gold mine of info in there :D

Hi - I had a montego blue Z4 - I liked it at first but over time would have preferred a darker blue
Not a fan of black cars as they need so much washing but ruby black looks amazing in sunlight

Both of those colours get a lot of love here. I’m going to be controversial and say I really don’t like Ruby Black!! I had a black E86 and set out looking for Black Sapphire or Carbon Black - Would have preferred Carbon but ended up with Sapphire. I just don’t like the red tone to Ruby Black so would be Montego Blue for me.

My first E86 was Ruby Black and I loved how it looked on a sunny day when it was clean, but as it lived outdoors in the UK those circumstances didn't occur too often. So much of the time it just looked black and quickly looked dirty. :(

My second E86 was Montego Blue and I much preferred that as it had some colour all the time - I'm not a fan of silvers, greys and blacks. It also didn't seem to look as dirty quite as quickly!

Luckily both of them had Pearl Grey seats, because I prefer pretty much any interior colour to black.

If I was comparing 2 cars in those colours my choice would also be influenced by the interior colours and options fitted.

Hope that is of some use, and have a good weekend.

Haven’t owned either but... I’d say Ruby black looks amazing when its cleaned and polished and in the right light. Otherwise it just looks black. Montego blue looks lovely clean or dirty. That would get my vote.

Both cool, but I always lusted after Montego Blue; rich colour, lovely in most lights and ‘period’ if that makes sense. Not that Ruby Black isnt, but the blue just stands out for more obvious reason. Plus Black of any type is a bitch to keep clean

Ended up with Monaco Blue coupe....also a bitch to keep clean

As others say, black is great when cleaned and polished but a pig to keep it that way.
My favorite colour is blue so slightly biased.E60771BC-AE57-4D2E-BD36-E392968263BC.jpeg

Oh well for a bit of balance here's one of each! If it is relevant Ruby Black tends to be rarer because it was a fairly expensive BMW Individual option.

If you can’t make up your mind, Monaco Blue is somewhere in between.

All the options are here, thanks everyone. Will be really interested to see how the Ruby Black looks real life, I do like the Montego Blue though - colour reminds me of my old Fiat Barchetta back in the day which I loved.

Unless the sun is out, ruby black is just black as it’s colour shift isn’t as obvious as some other purple/blacks.

However, when the stars align and the light is just right it really comes to life. Imo, it’s far more special than black sapphire and quite an unusual colour compared to most blacks.

This doesn’t entirely capture the flake and metallic effect but shows a hint of the colour.

On the Montego side, a good friend had one and I always thought it looked great. Had it been available on the M I would definitely have considered looking for one.
