Minor exhaust mod

Just picked the car up from Pipecraft in Basildon after having the centre resonator removed, it seemed an ideal first mod for me as I didn't fancy the drone that comes with the full backbox delete.
Have to say I'm really happy with the result, gives it a subtle but deeper rumble on start, low revs now have more of a rasp about them and over 4k there is a notable difference. Its no screamer but I am chuffed to bits

Dean at Pipecraft said see how you get on with it, and if I want he can mod the backbox at a later date whilst still avoiding the full backbox delete :driving:

Hi, what engine has your zed got? :?
Rob

Hello Rob, its only the 2.3 so I am a bit limited in regards to mods as it appears to be the least tuneable of the bunch,
I didn't know this at the time. The car came up at the right time, for a very good price and is pretty much fully loaded bar the heated steering wheel and electric seats.

I just have to avoid ever driving a 3.0/3.5 :D

Same for us, we have had our 23i for 6 years and still think its great.
Never driven any others with a bigger engine and will keep it that way.

Very interested in this!

Does it amplify the pops and bangs? My 23i makes some wonderful noises using the 'Throttle Tap' technique! Was the mod expensive?

Cheers!

Not as of yet, but I need more info on the β€˜throttle tap’ please.
It cost Β£120

It's pretty easy!

1) Wind windows down.
2) Accelerate in gear to about 4,000 rpm (works best in 2nd or 3rd for me).
3) Lift off throttle (My 23i will give a couple of pops and burbles at this point).
4) Immediately tap the throttle lightly (i mean lightly, you are probably only moving is a mm or 2)
5) Enjoy the pops and farts and giggle like a naughty school boy.

I would mate, but the brief research I did made it look as though there is not much available with decent results for the 2.3

I would if I find something decent though

Smartbear had something done on he’s, not sure what engine size he has , but he really rates the remap , he’s one of the guys that got me wanting to sort mine

Just checked your engine size on Celtic, see what you mean, not much real gains, recon smartbear must have a bigger engine

No, a turbo'd N20

From speaking to Super Chips a little while back, a remap on the 23i or 30i (basically naturally aspirated) will give you better drivability rather than more power. Things like no throttle lag etc. I recall there is someone on the forum who remapped their 30i and raved about it, saying the car was transformed. Equally you can get throttle pedal box tuning from the likes of Race Chip where you install a tuning box to the throttle pedal which I think has the same effect as remapping this engine. I saw a video on Youtube Dr Dean BMW or something like that where he installed this box to his 530i and raved about it too.
