Max speed in each gear

Correct, but the limiter only comes into effect in 6th gear, not 5th - hence 5th gear max speed being higher than 6th :thumbsup:
 
Hmmm.. wasn't this a myth? I think 171 sounds a bit steep too, I'm definitely going to have to have a go at that.

I'd post a video to prove it, but I was a bit busy at the time trying to drink my coffee, eat my Big Mac and spank the monkey, so couldn't keep the camcorder still enough in my teeth :P
 
HOW does the car know it is in 6th gear?

A microswitch?

If this was an auto, the computer controls the tranny then that's how it knows. With a manual, ????

It it's a microswitch, find it and disable it... :evil:

The DME enforces the speed limiter. It knows the car's in 6th gear by the speed the car's going and the engine RPM. There's no microswitch. :P
 
MMMMFive is right, 171 is easliy possible. I've had mine up to an indicated 175mph (on a de-restricted bit of autobahn of course) and there was some left. I know it was probably "only" doing 165 but i think there was another 10mph in it yet.
 
With a remap and limiter removed of course.... I've seen 185 on the speedo of mine. Not sure if there was any more in the car though, was running out of road!

Otherwise, those values above sound spot on.
 
My dealer told me that for a fee and if you have a racing license of some kind they can't plug in the computer and remove the limiter. It voids the warranty but if removing via computer then the limiter must be in the car's computer I would think.
