The Boxster platform is epic but also flawed with the same logic as the BMWs.
My dad has a 981 Boxster GTS and in terms of appointment, liveability its a great car. If you want something that makes you feel like a driving god there's not much better.
Things I really dislike about it, the car doesn't feel as fast as my M. Mainly they are almost identical but the GTS doesn't make as much torque low down like the M and it doesn't have that get up and go. The positives for me are negatives it just doesn't move and I enjoy pushing the car around a bit and the M is so tail happy that the Boxster felt a bit boring to me didn't make my heart flutter.
He also has a 991 S with the same engine in the 718 GTS and I think the 911 even tho its a 991 is far more exciting to drive because like the M it steps out and is less predictable. The 991 engine has that more power and that does feel quick although it's a bit heavier but I enjoy driving the 991 so much more than the 981. Sport plus it feels like such an animal. Both are PDK.
With the 718 GTS im sure that the engine makes up for the pep, although again I think these are high geared too? Im sure it still has the same qualities in terms of being very predictable.
I know its a bit silly that to me a car thats quick and glued to the road is a negative but I got my first M at 23 and ive just learned rightly or wrongly thats what I like and when I drive these other cars they just dont have the same axe murderer like quality.
Although the Z4 is a lot more grown up than the Z4M it still has the same BMW qualities as my 18 year old M.
Kind of why ive kept in the Ms because I dont think the m40 is worth £65k and its quirks and that on the edge feeling just doesn't exist in modern cars unless you go for a GT models.
