Manual gear shift knob removal

Thanks, I didn't want to start yanking on the thing without knowing for sure what the correct procedure is.

Cheers,

WOW 20ducks asking how to remove a shift knob?!

NOOOB :)

Yeah, I gotta potential deal on a custom short throw shifter....never even thought of it until it was offered to me.

At least someone on this board positioned himself wrong and smacked himself in the jaw with it when it finally came off.

Do keep your face out of the path when you start pulling on it. :smart:

Just sit on the hand brake when you pull it off. Slightly twist it whilst pulling it helps (this is sounding bad ...)

Replaced mine a few weeks back - but I had to remove the wiring first before I pulled it off.

Or you could do like the guy at HC, shift really hard into second, and it should fly right off! :P

I changed mine to the motowerk one, and could see how you could smack yourself without really trying......

Cheers

I just gave mine a little tug and it came right off in my hand....

... I need to get out more! :?

Probably done to death by now however.

I prefer to ensure my elbows are on the console or other firm surface and remove the gearknob by twisting and flexing my wrists. Since all movement is contained as opposed to simply tugging at the knob it has less ability to say 'hello' to your face.

PULL, PULL, PULL. Careful though. I've heard of many Z owners with bruised noses/eyes using this method...lol

Dunno. Haven't seen any goods yet... :|

Just changed mine today (Thats one of my list PVR)

And credit to PVR his method of sitting on the handbrake is by far the easiet, and no risk of damage to face.

Changed to a ZHP shorter knob over the weekend (great knob!).

Just a note if you plan to use the sitting on the handbrake method, make sure your on level surface!! When I was removing the old knob, with downward pressure on the handbrake, and a slight touch on the handbrake button, as I was pulling the knob, released the handbrake!!
I was now rolling backwards onto the road....
