Manual gear shift knob removal

I can imagime wrting that one up on an insurance claim if it rolled into the road causing an accident.
Cause of accident:
'While straddling the centre console and tugging my knob I inadvertently released the handbrake with my ar*e just at the moment the knob came off'. With knob in hand and lever in my ar*e I was unable to stop the car rolling into the road causing the pileup
The arrest for indecent exposure was unfortunate and caused when the handbrake tore the seat of my trousers. I must also note that I did not threaten the police officer with a heavy metal object that was my knob.'
I believe the passing motorist is the guilty party. Seeing me 'reversing' down the drive sat high in the centre of the car with knob in hand he should have realised I was insane and taken avoiding action...

gonna fit my zhp tomorrow- some have suggested sitting in the passenger seat and using 2nd gear- is this right for the uk? surely that means it is pointing at your face?
