Maintenance Day for a fellow Z4-Forum Person

Not after next weekend.

Next Tuesday, I get to spend 70+ days in sunny New London, Connecticut.

Without my Zed..........

I'm jealous, that is close to home (RI) and my old job (NUWC). I spent a lot of time at lower base. This is a nice time to be there (New England).

Sorry to hear you worked at NUWC....

The only thing nice about my trips to Groton are the spectacularly large paychecks and per dium......

Hey, Ship - on a side note, I finally got the F-150 suspension problem fixed! I don't know if I ever told you about this so here's the whole story...

NJ requires annual state inspections. At my first inspection the suspension computer module recognized a loose or broken part in the right front. A repair and report order was given to me so I took it to the nearest dealer. Dealer said he could not find anything wrong but the shocks looked pretty rough and I might try to replace them and see how it goes - so I had him replace the front shocks, balance and rotate, and 4 wheel alignment. I take it back to the state inspection place and it passes but the guy said the computer still noted a problem in the right front. Whatever! I wasn't about to take it back to the same dealer and it was driving fine so I blew it off and asked around Church if anyone knew of someone reputable that would be knowledgeable of the 4 wheel drive system (thinking that might be the problem). I got one lead but was too lazy to ever take it in. I started noticing a clank coming from the right front when I would go over a large bump or pothole (lots of them in Dirty Jersey) so I finally took it in. You know what he found??? The freaking kid that put the new shock on didn't install the lower bolt that holds the shock to the strut!!! Everytime the shock would compress and the tire would fall it would come ever-so-slightly out of the fitting and make a clank noise when it re-seated! $35 fix.

Anyway, thought you'd enjoy that story and it might help if you ever had a similar problem with yours.

No apologies, that was probally the best job I have had, cutting edge. I have touched everything you had posted pictures of in advanced stages (prototype).

The BSY-1 WLS (The Wall) is got to be the biggest POS ever designed. Designed and manufactured by Hughes, under contract to IBM... and the Navy did not see it clear to buy the schematics for the damn thing.

Every good troubleshooting document we have we essentially stole years ago.... and have photocopied to death....

It's 30 years old now and the replacement has been canceled.... We work are butts off to keep in going....

Sorry, you got me going.... I guess it's just job security....

Whats really scary, I am an expert in 13 different Combat Systems...

MK-117
CCS MK-1
CCS MK-1 w/RTI
BSY-1
CCS MK-2
CCS MK-2/B1C
BYG-1 TI00, TI02, TI04 and TI06....
Virginia Class Config B, C and E

Sometimes when I walk on a boat, I have to just stop and see what they have and try to remember everything about that particular system... sometimes you get confused...

Actually, there are some very smart and hard working people at NUWC.

It is just that there are a cubic butt ton of morons up there too.... about a 10/1 ratio.

For us at FTSC, (now MARMC) it that it seems that there is no accountability up there...

Have a good trip, and think about the mod money you will have when you finish up.

Shipkiller, do you ever make it out to the casinos when your in CT?

I have gone, but I usually don't gamble.. I have this thing about throwing money away....

But sometimes if I have some time off, we all might go up to the Sun and walk around for a few hours..

ShipkillerI have gone said:
Agreed! They haven't gotten a penny of my money yet.

I was thinking that maybe we could pull together some kind of meet of southern New England members while you're in the area. Just a wild thought ...

can you post part numbers for us so i can order the parts?

I need a major maintenance day(belts, waterpump, thermostat, cabin filter, now vanos seal)

LR66604 its M54...part number should be all same

i'm also trying to do CCV/oil separater thingy too... apparently it's a source for a high oil consumption

i hang out on the E46fanatics.com and they have more than enough information for our cars....which is essentially the same.

I find more things to do on the car as I hang out there longer lol

not really informative but a quick search yielded this thread

I replaced most of the valve cover gasket components. Mostly because, but I also had a very small weep of oil from the valves cover area into sparkplug wells three and four. Problem fixed...
If you have ever done a valve cover gasket replacement on another manufactures engine, you will fall in love with the BMW design.

Here is the link for the procedure I printed out and followed somewhat. They are VERY good. It will list other things you might need.

Also, why are you replacing the Waterpump. GP?

Anyone else referencing this thread, be sure you double check the part numbers. Your engine may be different...
